As the Jūbi nears its resurrection, so does the Sage, he will once again subjugate the progenitor of the world through this transcendental individual. It will be through Naruto and another that this event will be realized, for the remaining essence of the Sage will mimic the Fourth’s in Naruto. This essence is two halves, placed in both the Bijū and the Jūbi. The former will come to pass during the Jūbi’s revival, and the other after its Jinchūriki survives its extraction. The first displayed power will be celestial, from the Bijū it and the other, will halt the Jūbi’s advance in its tracks —allocating enough time for their adversary to become its Jinchūriki.

After great desperation, Naruto and the other will defeat the Jūbi’s Jinchūriki; however the Jūbi will present itself once more. The second halve of the power will be witnessed here; it shall subdue the Jūbi and present the individual with the answer needed to reform the world. All those who witness this shall accept the individual’s (Naruto) proposal to a change in the current structure of power, and the other will fall into his unassailable life and person. ​

If one thing i noticed for certain is that Kishi always shows up every character he once presented to us but was kep in mistery. The sage will surely have an impact about the present in Naruto.. It might be in a "dream"like Naruto met his mother or in the real verse.
