Hello guys I would like to talk about Sage of six paths, Truth and purpouse of his birth, life and his death. Ok, so let me elaborate about this topic.
Ok, so first let me bring scan form the manga to which I will reffer to:
"And Kaguya's son was born with chakra already within his body" "Kaguya's son managed to stop it" "The first one who unveiled the secrets of chakra and of Ninjutsu."
Now, let's focus on Hagoromo's birth. We know that for woman to give birth she need to impregnated by man before. However we have none knowledge about Hagoromo's father also if he even has one. That where first part of my theory begin.
In the end I believe that only Sage of six paths's human body died while his soul was divided and sealed among The nine tailed beasts to help child of prophecy one day against Juubi as failsafe or Sage's soul=God returned back into heaven.
Also considering that his mother: Princess Kaguya began this Samsara(suffering) cycle, then it was finally broke by her Son: Hagoromo Ootsutsuki who known as Sage of six paths freed mankind from suffering which could cause The Juubi, also by teaching them Ninshu and about chakra to make them stronger and spreading peace idea... The Sage earned enlightment and reached Nirvana through his own efforts becoming Ideal Figure for Mankind to follow him.
Lol, I know this is chaotic theory and lack easy to understand conclusions so I make summary of this theory.

BASING ON THE CHRISTIANITY
Kishi uses many motives, elements from defferent mythologies, religions as buddhism, hinduism and now after revealance about The God Tree, most likley Christianity as well. Let's say that Kishi pattern birth of Hagoromo basing on birth of Jesus... this could be true as they have a lot similliarites with each other. However Jesus Christ had early father in opposite to Hagoromo as far as we know. Maybe Hagoromo has some usual and irrevealant earthly father as well. Of course my main base for my theory is that I believe Some diety like The God in christianity also existed in Narutoverse and this diety created planet and mankind, also planted this The God Tree on earth before creation of mankind.
If all of that is true... then maybe The God/omnipotent diety in Narutoverse who created mankind was afraid that The God Tree transformed into monser aka Juubi will kill entie mankind and wanted to stop it, but some law or limit forbidd him to interfere in The World directly, so he somehow impregnated Princess Kaguya or taking form of Human child placed himself in Princess Kaguya so she give birth to The God in human child like body, wether eartly father was involved or no could be unknown at this point.
Now, Hagoromo Ootsutsuki born being as The God/omnipotent diety in human body stopped The God Tree, defeating it giving hope again to mankind, then through his entire life he wanted to make mankind stronger able to protect themselves but also understand purpouse why he taught them about chakra, but people began to fight each other so The God failed in way but he didn't want to force people to anything, so at the end days of his Human body, he divided Juubi into nine parts and sealed it's empty corpse into giant rock creating The moon.
After his human body died, The God as ghost simply disappeared from the World and decided to leave Mankind with their own problems without interfering any more. Maybe he also wanted to show mankind that death is only gateway to next life... but there is nothing mentioned about afterlife in Naruto so I won't touch this subject.

However if Kishi pattern Hagoromo's birth on Buddhism, then Hagoromo Ootsutsuki could be just born as bodhisattva who through his entire life released himself from Samsara(suffering) cycle through enlightment reaching Nirvana.

Also Liberation from The Samsara cycle is only reachable by following buddha path..., I believe that Sage of six paths through enlightment reached Nirvana which is liberation from The Samsara cycle(Cycle of rebirth).
In other words Sage of six paths may be immortal after his human death if he didn't sacrificed his Nirvana to save others people also the The samsara cycle, also Naruto could be literally reincarnation of The Sage unless Sage of six paths became buddha and can live forever beyond samsara(rebirth cycle) then Naruto is not reincarnation of The Sage.

- Sage of six paths freed himself through Samsara(suffering) cycle of repeated cycle of rebirth and death if He didn't sacrifice his Nirvana for others else Sage of six paths chose to stay in Samsara cycle until he won't save every human from Samsara(suffering ) cycle, which he chose as his mission.
- Sage of six paths reached Omniscience through his own efforts and doings.
- Only Sage of six paths's human body died while his soul either will appear to Naruto through his essence divided and sealed into each tailed beast or his soul=The God of Narutoverese will return back to afterlife/heaven
