Kishi clearly highlighted this fact for some reason as all the Uchiha were absent during the attack.
1) It could have been a meeting since Itachi and Sasuke were way too young to be at the meeting. Maybe Zetsu informed Obito of the secret meeting, and he took advantage of this strange situation and knew that the Uchiha would be framed after the attack due to their absence.
2) Obito acting as Madara could have persuaded Uchiha members who believed that Madara's philosophy was correct to move out of the village so that he could attack the village and they would be safe. But then Obito could have just betrayed them in the end.
Do you have any other theories as to why they were absent?
