Kaguya
She was sent to earth to steal earth's life force and take them to the otsutsuki but she decided to stay. She fell in love with a human and had babies with him. But she was always worried and always looking at the sky. She knew her decision would lead to more otsutsuki coming for her. She was preparing armies and preparing her sons for the incoming attack of the otsutsuki. She gave her sons a powerful seal. A seal able to seal even an otsutsuki. She wanted more power because she knew who ever was coming to earth for her was going to be more powerful. Her fear and desire for power turned her sons against her and was sealed away. By sealing kaguya and stopping the tree, they were able to stop other otsutsuki coming to earth because they no longer had trace of kaguya and why would they come if kaguya was already dead. They had no idea that she had sons and that they possessed her powers. They had no idea her sons were sharing powers to human. Only after kaguya and the tree was resurrected again that other otsutsuki sensed kaguya and the tree.
This led to the appearance of:
momoshiki and kinshiki otsutsuki
They came to earth to kill kaguya but when they came she was already sealed away and her powers were split into tail beasts. They decided to get all her powers beast by beast and destroy earth but boruto naruto and sasuke stop them again.
Mysterious Otsutsuki
Boruto thought it was momoshiki but i don't think it was momoshiki talking to him because he was able to control time and space. He was able to stop time all around him. Momoshiki didn't have such power. He also had the power to see the future. He saw something in boruto a potential therefore he gave him the power of the GOD. He is preparing boruto for the calamity that is coming to earth.
With the death of Kaguya momoshi and kinshiki, Earth declared war against the Otsutsuki clan(GODS). Earth obviously now possess the power to stop these otsutsuki and they will come full strength to earth to destroy it.
Earth now has the attention of the Otsutsuki and every clan has a leader or person who is the most powerful. I bet boruto and kawaki will be only ones able to stop this leader of the otsutsuki. Like the rivalry of naruto and sasuke. Kawaki and boruto will also have same relationship both with different beliefs. At some point they had to be friends. They will have to work together and becoming friends again to stop the strongest otsutsuki yet.
Boruto is getting op powers because he is preparing for the incoming attack of the otsutsuki clan
