You better study earl infantry History in order to open a hole in the enemies position large amounts of men were sacrifice to do this assuring casualties of 90 to 100% against fire arms and cannons thus the term Cannon Fodder was born to signify wasting men away. In WW I with the addition machine gun fire frontal attacks became 100 present Casualties with no ground gain at all until tanks were created.
