The word 'exigency' and its use

Could someone who knows how to use the word 'exigency' tell me if the sentence: "highlights the East German population's exigency for self-preservation" makes sense?

Well that's what I thought, but exigency can also be used as a term describing a needful situation, so I wanted some clarification.

Depends how its used in the sentence. In order to know, I kind of need the complete sentence.

I kind of suck at English so it's my guess and final answer.

Why I choose "exigent"? It is an adjective used to modify self-preservation (to make sense) [if that makes sense]. Took -ly off of "apparently." Also, I put a comma in between apparent and perpetual because they were adjectives describing the schedule. Lastly, for my triple edited...... I HATED that "'s" and "s" on population and highlight [Although, you can decide to keep them if you want].

Assuming this is the sentence, it makes sense. Since exigency is a word used to describe an urgent need or demand (which is probably the textbook definition), just take it out and place the definition there. If it clicks, it has been used correctly. If it sounds somewhat awkward or blocky in a sentence, it is most likely incorrect.

The sentence flows, so it's correct.
