If the will of fire is passed from student to teacher then why is hashirama credited with beginning the will of fire string involving hiruzen jiraiya minato (kakashi) and naruto if the second hokage was hiruzen's teacher?

Hashi was influential to Hiruzen, even though he may not have been his sensei. Hashi likely created the philosophy and passed it to his brother.

It is the philosophy of the Shodaime, that is followed by EVERY single shinobi of the Leaf village. If they don't follow it, that means they don't love their village. Simple as that.
