As Naruto has progressed, the Uchiha trademark symbols, the clan symbol, and the sharingan have repeatedely become something for all shinobi to fear.
The Uchiha, were one the greatest ninja clans, only matched by the equally powerful Senju clan, clans would fear battling wielders of the great sharingan.
The clan kept its reputation of been a clan built for battle, with people assuming a Ninja was powerful merely because they were a member of the Uchiha!
The Sharingan was a very famous Dojutsu (I hope thats the eye gekkai genkai name or w.e.
) It gave a user an excellent advantage in combat, especially with 3 tomoe, with some people saying that most ninja shouldn't take on a sharingan wielder 1 on 1, (the old medic lady says that when she, naruto and kakashi took on Itachi)
Its techniques have been used to help defeat powerful ninja far more easily than might be expected. Such as kakashi's first fight with Zabuza and Itachi defeating Deidara.
The mangekyo sharingan gives the users extremely powerful, but dark powers. Ameratsu, it looks evil and scary due to its great strength, but also its colour, black flames are a demonic looking technique indeed!
Tsukuyomi was also another scary technique, with a genjutsu master like Itachi, it was a technique of pure terror. Kakashi was overwhelmed in seconds by Itachis use of it, and Kakashi had a sharingan which would give him a great resistance to genjutsu.
Susano looks demonic, and is frighteningly strong!
The clans reputation for battle prowess, and powerful ocular powers make them people to respect, look up to and fear to fight, but the greatest players in the Uchiha clan will make them a clan to terrify many in the future, a fear which may linger if Sasuke redeems himself.
Itachi Uchiha- While it turns out he was actually a good guy, it may not be widely know. Many knew he was a master of genjutsu, and having defeated captured a Jinchuuriki and most likely defeated other strong opponents in his time, showed what power a true heir of the uchiha clan wields.
Sasuke - He's killed a hokage, attack the 5 kage summit, injured the powerful raikage (admittedely coming out injured himself), killed a lot of samurai and has proven to be a master with ameratsu.
Madara Uchiha - A legend, a founder of Konoha and had a terrifyingly powerful battle with the 1st Hokage. His control of the 9 tails made people fear and suspect the Uchihas when the Kyuubi attacked Konoha 16 years ago. He has returned from the dead, having unlocked the rinnengan before his death. People will fear the Uchihas name, as even if the 5 kage defeat him, he has already killed many many ninjas in the war with a single technique, and if he does get defeated, people will always know that it took 5 of the greatest ninja alive, to defeat a legendary Uchiha.
I know I typed up a fair amount there, but my point is basically, if in the Narutoverse, 15 years later a powerful Uchiha turns up, would most shinobi think he's going to be a noble shinobi like Naruto, or the Senjus, or a demonicly powerful heir to Madaras legacy? A ninja will see their back, see the symbol, or look in their eyes, and will gulp with anxiety!
