In the manga version, black Zetsu's mokuton is very weak.

While Spiral zetsu has shown a very high level mokuton, even that of the first hokage's buddah technique.

Madara called black zetsu a failed experiment.

Black Zetsu met his fate against Mei's squad (possibly with a bit of help from a weakened KCM Naruto clone). The current Spiral Zetsu is holding his own against multiple kage, a part of the SA, and even Edo Hiruzen. Heck he's dealing quite a few blows.

Well Obito did state that the black/white variant of the zetsu were not strong in combat i believe around where team 7 reunited after the danzo fight. So I am going with spiral zetsu
