Hmmm... I guess it's the way he told Naruto that Hinata was willing to die for him. He knew from part 1 how she felt and I just felt like he was trying to make Naruto see her love, even though she already confessed it earlier. If it was meant to be a tragic death of a friend, it shouldn't have involved Hinata and been solely about his feelings toward Naruto, or simply Neji's love for Hinata that overcame his duty. Instead it was like he was trying to play matchmaker in death. That's just how I see it I guess. lol
That's a valid opinion I guess. To me it was more simple, Hinata shielded Naruto to do the same thing Neji ended up doing, and protected both of them. The fact that Hinata was willing to die for him, meant that Naruto carried the burden of her life along with his own. That if he were to die, he'd be taking her too, since she cared about him enough to disregard her own life.

Oh I agree about that, I just found it unnecessary for him to point out Hinata's willingness to die for Naruto. It was already obvious.

I also feel Neji wasn't close enough to Naruto for the reaction he had. It was like Neji was placed dying in his arms at the last moment to bring Naruto and Hinata closer. Even Sai would have made more sense. Better yet, panels hinting at a bond forming between Naruto and Neji so it would be more tragic. We hardly saw Neji in part 2. He wanted to see Naruto after 3 years during the rescue of Gaara but after that... nothing.

I personally love how he overcame his duties and let his heart guide him to his fate, but how it was handled after and Kakashi's speech in chapter 616... it didn't fit the relationship between Naruto and Neji in my opinion.

Are you kidding?! Neji's defeat at his hands was the first and final blow to his ego. Naruto free'd him from his cage of predetermined fate. Because of Naruto, Neji was able to realise, that his life was dictated by his own choices and he was free to make his own destiny as he saw fit. Neji's beliefs firmly lied in a fate that had already been set by nature, which could not be opposed, ever. It was his curse, a burden, on top of which he had no choice but to believe that his father suffered the same fate. His fight against Naruto compelled him to reveal those thoughts in the stadium. Hizashi, seeing this, finally told him the truth, after Naruto changed him. Neji respected Naruto greatly!

Again, Neji was pointing out that Naruto's life wasn't his own anymore.

Neji yes, but I meant Naruto's feelings to him were never really expressed as passionately as Neji's were. Actually, now that I think about it, Neji never told Naruto he changed him, so maybe Naruto's reaction is justified now that he finally knew how Neji really felt.

Again, I agree with you completely on that. It's the main reason Neji became my favorite. His character developed beautifully.

Yes, I keep forgetting his admiration for Naruto was simply thoughts in his head. It's like a friend confessing they are in love with the person they had been friends with before they die. It changes that person's entire view of them after that.
Neji was kinda like Sasuke, not the type to express his feelings, only show them, and boy did he ever show them!

More reasons he's my fav. I guess all the NaruHina fans overwhelming the board after that chapter burned me up. lol I personally think they will end up together but there was more symbolic meanings to the last 3 chapters and it kind of went over everyone's heads who like to couple the characters and many points were lost.

Thanks for the intelligent chat by the way. You opened my eyes to things I'd forgotten.

lol don't worry, I'm new but I'm not one of them. I enjoy a good debate with intelligent conversation and sharing opinions. I'm currently avoiding a lot of threads that would leave me  if I read them.

I was looking/still am looking for Obito to kill off either Kakashi/Sai/Sakura because they're the closest to Naruto on the battle field right now. Kakashi would get a major reaction like he did when he confronted Pain, Sai not as big but Naruto did accept him, and Sakura b/c of everything he's gone through for her from saving her from Garra to chasing Sasuke.

Neji dying for Naruto just felt blah in terms of impact, but it showed Kishi will at least kill someone.
