There have been too many threads about this subject and to this day, still pop up and are used in arguments

it seems that most people don't understand how Izanami works, and due to that misinformation, they believe that Izanami is a one-shot tech.

So here is a detailed explanation so we can finally conclude that Itachi died multiple times in real time before Izanami went into affect.

Now it is debatable whether or not he could have still pulled it off if he was a non-edo, but fact is that he did indeed get fatally wounded multiple times before Izanami

First off let me start of where Itachi says that he activated Izanami when first got stabbed by Kabuto

Activating Izanami doesn't mean it automatically casts genjutsu.....you first have to repeat a certain pattern to fool the senses so that you can close the loop.

Itachi first activated Izanami in the first stab......it has no effect until the movements are replicated in order to deceive the senses, and that happened once he got stabbed the second time....

when it is first cast, it is only in recording mode until the loop is complete

Itachi clearly says it right here.....look I've even circled it in red in the posted page

"replicate the same bodily sensation intentionally"

the intentional loop, meaning the loop that was not in the mind/genjutsu, but manually replicated to complete Izanami and finish its "recording" so that it could repeat..

which means, all those deaths that happened before the loop was complete, happened in real-time and were not an illusion

Here is when Izanami is fully complete and starts to take effect/cast genjutsu, which is why Itachi loses his eye after the second stab(because he completed the pattern)

Kabuto was still missing his horn throughout the whole replication process only until the loop was finished

Itachi died multiple times before the loop was finished and you can clearly see Kabuto still missing his horn

So to conclude and summarize what I said

Izanami activated when Itachi was first stabbed.....it was only recording the process, not repeating it

Izanami has to record the intentionally(keyword from Itachi's quote) repeated pattern for it to be able to loop

once that pattern is manually repeated, as in having to do it for real and not in a genjutsu

only then will Izanami be complete and replay the actions over and over again

Itachi says that he has to repeat the pattern in order to close the loop

A connecting to A

Itachi died 3 times, and was caught in a genjutsu with Sasuke before Izanami had any effect....so there you go people

There is no truth behind Izinami. That shit is nonsense.

Yeah Izanami is nonsense, that's why I made this thread to clear any confusion left

I'm sick and tired of hearing Izanami one-shots....no it doesn't, there is no guarantee that it will even be fully activated to cast the genjutsu

Good Theory. Indeed some good points.

lol thanks, but it's more of a fact than a theory....I mean it's literally stated in the manga that Izanami doesn't take effect until you've finished replicating the loop

even the wiki says this

I agree, I doubt Itachi could've closed the loop if he was a non-edo, he used the immortality benefit of being an Edo zombie for the maximum efficacy of using Izanami good work!

Already knew this and already created a thread about it long time before(i think it was some time after the chapter concerning Izanami was released):

But nice thread anyway. I doubt it will stop some senseless discussions by blind fanboys though

Even if itachi was non edo, he still would have been able to use izanami.
He just used edo tensei to his advantage. Kishi had to show itachi and sasuke struggling and not roflstomping kabuto otherwise it would be boring fight.
Note that izanami has been used among uchiha since ages and it is not a rare technique.

Suicidal techs coz they're emo :p

How could you stands something even when u tears, it will tears blood, poor poor uchihas, not to mention hashi's valuation on them though, so actually kishi doesnt favors them all these while unlike most of us thinks :D

The reason why this is unlikely is because we see here that Itachi got impaled by the sage art because he sacrificed his defense in order to protect sasuke....he was was a non-edo, he would be dead for sure

not to mention, but he has to be very careful since him regenerating means that Sasuke is vulnerable and Kabuto has the chance to take back control over Itachi's will....

if it wasn't for Sasuke's amaterasu in this page, then that's exactly what would have happened

So logically speaking, Itachi wouldn't be so reckless as to allow Kabuto to just kill him due to the risk of Itachi being controlled again and Sasuke being targeted without Itachi's assistance....meaning that Itachi just couldn't realistically defend against Kabuto's attacks

Agreed, Izanami is not as easy to pull off as few might think. The amount of preparation and time it requires would make it hard for Itachi to pull off, at the same time as dodging his opponent's attacks.

Considering that the technique's purpose only applies to certain characters, it wouldn't be practical to use in a combat scenario anyway, unless the target is uncertain of who they truly are (much like Kabuto).

Your misunderstanding something. What makes Itachi's Izanami an OP technique is the fact that a bodily sensation can be as minute as blinking an eye and is not limited to actual contact with the opponent; given the general statement it is portrayed optional. Itachi initially planned on going and stopping kabuto alone, Sasuke's presence is what caused the extended fight and the reason he was technically killed 3 times. He could've used izanami right from the start.

There you go, Itachi needs only record the actions of the opponent
