The truth about genjutsu

It is stated early on in the manga that genjutsu uses the five senses to control or disrupt the chakra in the brain. But it is later proven in the manga that genjutsu can work on anyone and that the claim made earlier in the manga is inaccurate. My reason being people didn't even know that the Rinnegan came after the Sharingan. This proves that the Shinobi in Naruto don't know everything about their world.

Kaguya used infinite Tsukyomi on people who had no chakra. This means that genjutsu can be used on anyone. Later on when Shinobi used genjutsu on each other they could tell if someone was under a genjutsu because chakra will notify them.

The claim about genjutsu controls chakra is either false or inaccurate because of what Kaguya did in the past. From a shinobi's observation when genjutsu is used on those who have chakra it appears that their chakra flow is irregular notifying that the person is under a genjutsu.

"Chakra may be nothing more than a way to combat genjutsu and to tell if a genjutsu placed on someone." My evidence to support this, Dojutsu uses chakra and the shinobi's who use Dojutsu. An example, Hinata checking if Tobi was using a genjutsu and can see if one is under a genjutsu. Another example Sasuke being unaffected by infinite Tsukyomi.

Later on in the manga we find out that Genjutsu is a type of Yin release meaning, it controls imagination and forms from nothingness.

So genjutsu can effect anyone(outside of Naruto) and a way to combat it is the use of chakra.

Genjustu is manifested through yin (spiritual energy) which deals with bringing forth form from nothing.
In application to genjustu the mechanics behind it are as you stated through the manipulation of the five senses OR disrupt chakra in the brain.

It is very simple spiritual energy was around before chakra spiritual energy is found in humans the thing the sage wanted others to learn how to connect with one another.

Its also worth nothing that the earliest time period takes place in the warring states era a common time for priest to wander around sealing demons and such which means fuininjustu was also a thing before chakra.

Kaguya is one such demon

We don't know what really happened when Kaguya first used the Infinite Tsukuyomi and its chronological events. Unless you can post MangaScans where Kaguya used infinite Tsukyomi on people who had no chakra.

For now, Genjutsu disrupts chakra in the brain, no mor and no less.

Actually based on what the databook started in Kaguya's entry, I think chakra was around during her time, like perhaps she was the one who spread chakra around to unify the planet, but then as people began to weaponize chakra, she began to role with force instead, and decided to take all her chakra back. Thus becoming filled with greed, and her becoming referred to as a demon.
Then after her defeat, humans chose to leave that part of history out and say it was Hagoromo that spread chakra AND ninshuu around, when all he actually spread was ninshuu.
