I believe his trump card was Black Zetsu. Which would make for a much better plot line to have Madara-dono think he is using BZ all the while BZ is the conductor of the whole damn scheme...

In his text, he says ''my''. It can't be Sennin mode as he didn't have it at the time, nor possessed it in his Edo Tensei. So, it was black Zetsu, his trump card. Black Zetsu would merge with Obito's body to force him use Rinne Tensei on Madara.​
