The Third Hokage's sacrifice

Before the recent chapter, I thought that Hiruzen laying down his life at least had a worthwhile justification. However, seeing how easy it was for Orochimaru to take back his arms and get the hokages and now he has access to all previous kages, it just seems like the third threw his life away against Orochimaru. Of all the jutsu Hiruzen is supposed to know RDS seems to have been the jutsu he should not have used. But what do you guys think?

I was thinking at this as well. Both sacrifices seem so pointless now, the third and the fouth's.
I mean, I understand that Kishi needs new plots and stuff, however, he's ruining some quality along the way.
At least,that's my view on it.

i think it was the right thing to do for he never dreamed there was a way around the reaper death seal. just saying i doubt anyone but oro would be able to figure that out! props to oro!!!!!

Maybe he didn't know Orochimaru figured out how to get the souls out of the Death God?

I mean if it is a "simple", simple being used lightly here, Uzumaki seal which doesn't require much to undo and the Uzumaki's keep a mask to undo the seal in the Uzumaki shrine when it's a Uzumaki sealing technique it wouldn't seem like rocket science to know Orochimaru would regain access to his arms the previous hokage, and now the third hokage, and be able to release the Kyuubi's chakra.

And the question is how Oro knew about the sealing techniques of the Uzumaki clan? I mean, ok, you know about the seal, but how to unseal?
And if Orochimaru knew, wouldn't it be more normal that The Third knew too? Why to make such a reckless thing when you know that the danger of unsealing exists giving you have a twisted ex-pupil doing all those twisted things and had just killed you and wants to take over Konoha... :|

The third's actions were not pointless either.

No hokages were used in the war against the alliance. That was thanks to hiruzen, and minato. Kabuto believed there was no way to bring them back from the death reaper.

I believe when the third took orochimaru's arms, he didnt believe orochimaru would get this far. The third believed that he had taken all of oro's jutsu. Im sure he would be shocked when he learn the oro was the one who broke the seal, even without his arms.

Exactly what I was thinking, saved the village horribly crippled Oro for like 4 years and gave Konoha's forces time to mature and beable to handle the threat down the road. Not to mention the 3rd probablly didn't know about this jutsu. It's not likely every Uzumaki even knew about the Shikfujin or if they did not be aware of a way to unseal it, it's probable that an outsider of the clan may not have known about the mask even if he was the professor.

No one has as much jutsu knowledge as Orochimaru, Hiruzen learned to perform the Death Reaper Seal when he saw Minato using it, but Orochimaru went deeper than that.

I know that he was collecting all the jutsu data blah blah, but at that time, he didn't even knew what jutsu it was. But, conveniently, he found now. About how to use it, how to unseal it, the requirements, so on and so forth.

The unsealing requires a life-sacrifice as he reincarnated himself into that Zetsu body.
My question was how.
