Orochimaru can only be defeated by sealing him. Or else he can use that creepy justu which allows him to throw away his old body and appear again out of the mouth of his previous body. This would happen quite a few times and then the gates effect is over and Gai will no longer be able to fight and Oro can stab Gai with his sword.
