Japan was at one point becoming a Catholic country du to large conversion by Spanish and Portuguese priest in the late 1500 to 1600,so much so that the Shogun at the time declared Christianity a treat and persecution and killing of Japanese people who were Christian when on for many decades. Trade with Spain and Portugal were cut off and Japan began an isolationist policy until Commodore Perry and the American Navy open Japan up by force in the 1800.

Please don't let you desdain for religion be known here you could offend somebody

I'm not offending anybody. I respect persons and I think everybody has the right to have faith. It's just using the term Judas in a manga that uses eastern deities references is out of place (That, and what my good dawg SagemodejubihostSasuke told about Jesus). So, if the manga doesn't have any catolic reference, then I don't see the point of a translation using it... It doesn't make sense.

Does this term has anything to do with Shintoism, Taoism or Buddhism? If not, then nothing will convince me.

We have Izanagi, Izanami, Amaterasu, Tsukiyomi, Susano'o, Raijin, Orochi (related to Kusanagi), Kotoamatsukami... come on, even Ebisu is there XD

Bolded words made my day hahaha XD.

But still, even if there is freedom for expressing yourself, I am from these kinds of persons that even being tolerant, know that there are things that must be told in the right moment, and things that shouldn't.

This is Kishimoto's Manga, influenced by Japanese culture, a series that makes references of gods of Yamato, and if we are the kind of persons that likes culture, we should at least respect what the author intended for this shared culture. At least this is what I intend with my attitude towards the manga. Culture must me preserved.

Well, I won't keep argumenting. You have your opinion and I respect it, I have mine. I don't have the obligation to be like everybody else.

No it had to do with The Term Judas,Ideals travel, thats why Dictators don't like other ideas and terms that don't agree with their believes, thats why terrorist attack anybody who's ideas differ from theirs. It's a small world like the song says.

Thanks for clarifying.

I was catolic, but now I'm atheist. I'm not a "believer".

For that reason, I lost respect *********** for a week. It made me feel like Naruto was influenced by Western religious culture for a Week... yuck.

I'm a pretty strong atheist myself, but I didn't take it too badly in my opinion.

Good for you. If you read my other posts (specially the last two) you will understand my point of view.

Obito called Sasuke Fellow Judas according to ***********.
In case some of you does not know what that means, Well in the bible, Judas was the one who betrayed/soldout Jesus.
So, Obito was referring to both he and Sasuke as fellow Judas.
Obito betrayed Madara and Sasuke betrayed Obito.

I don't think Obito is calling himself a Juda, he is calling Sasuke, and Minato a Juda.
The power of "god" is the Juubi, and Obito is not a betrayer of the Juubi

Are you shitting me. -_- What's wrong with including multiple cultural references? In my opinion, it makes it more interesting.

No it doesn't. It only makes stupid discussion come up asking if Bible exist in Narutoverse.

One thing Kishi does nicely is to stick by his verse and use the correct references. Picking a name like that immediately associates it with something which do not belong to that verse. It's not a cultural reference- it has a meaning under certain context only.

Curious comment, through I know you're talking about me. I feel sorry for you, even when I mentioned I was respecting the culture that was being exposed inside the manga... oh well. Trolls will just keep trolling I guess...

Utilizing allusions in fiction is a common technique. If people can make allusions to Shakespeare, Poe, Thoreau, Emerson, and such then Biblical allusions can be utilized as well. An allusion is merely a literary technique and nothing more.
Kishimoto himself uses many allusions to Buddhism and Shintoism, so it's perfectly fine -- in my opinion -- to include Western influences in translation to a Western-ish language. It can even be viewed as artful and creative.

you weren't respecting the culture if you were you would have left your beliefs out of it and just said that you don't think Christianity has a place in naruto instead of starting it out with you being an atheist

You haven't read all my posts as it seems, because if you had it done, you'll notice all my point of view, so it's possible you're just missjudging me.

What I didn't like was the "translation team"... If I was watching a manga where there are direct allusion for buddhism and christianism simultaneously (for example, Rurouni Kenshin) I would be pretty cool with it (in fact I did read this whole manga and I quite enjoyed it, it's a masterpiece). But this is Naruto, and Naruto doesn't make allusions to christianism, so that reference of *********** was out of place IMO.

I am not imposing my point of view to anyone here, and I feel cool if everyone else here likes that reference. So I will thank you if you stop quoting me without a solid reason, because otherwise I would think you're paranoic and psychotic.

I think that you are rather egocentric if you punish in such a way your favourite manga. If you haven´t heard of, Kishi does take influence from many ancient myths-stories from various religious texts and images. So, you mean taking insipiration from other cultures offends you?

If so, you´re a closet xenophobic. xeno means strange/unknown, meaning "being afraid of the unknown".
Hoping you´re not one, peace

*********** recently took too loose a system almost as if they have completely new translators. They overdo it with the figure of speeches and try to force them into every situation even at the cost of accurate translation. In fact, it's gotten so bad that in certain panels the mangareader translation is better!
