When we first saw the ten tails it was shown to have the Rinnegan like the Sage.
I'm sure no one believed that them having similar eyes was by some strange coincidence. It clearly meant that Hagaromo had a connection with the beast beyond just sealing it inside himself. Of course the answer couldn't have been that the Sage gained the Rinnegan through being the Ten Tail's Jin, as it wouldn't be consistent with other Jin. Gaara could not go version 2 after the one tails was removed from him, a form which gave him the eyes of the one tails. The Sage being able to perform Chibaku Tensei(a Rinnegan ability) after removing it from his body implies that the eyes were his own. The ten tails and the Sage don't even have the same expect eyes.
No Jin gained permanent physical attributes of their tailed beast, except for Naruto with his whistles of course. But he had those at birth before becoming Kurama's Jin. Minato, Kushina, and Mito didn't have them even those they were Kurama's Jin.
Now Kin and Gin also had whistles and all they did was live off Kurama's chakra for weeks. This says that the only way to gain physical attributes of a tailed beast is to live off its chakra for long periods of times. We know that Kushina was a hot head, so she would have access to Kurama's chakra, this shows with her hair looking like nine tails when she is angry. Thus Naruto would have consumed that chakra as babies live off their mother while in the womb. So Hagoromo gaining physical attributes of the ten tails because it was his mother would be consistent with how Naruto got his whistles.
