Can't say for sure but I just got the impression Madara simply molded his Perfect Susanoo around Kurama... Not much more to it imo!
I may be wrong here, but can't Susano'o be transformed, as it's simply chakra? What I'm trying to say is, couldn't Madara just make it fit?
Then why would his Perfect Susanoo be hollow on the inside? It's a shell for something, the tailed beast the Sharingan controls, the Kyuubi.

Because armor is hollow until it's worn by either the caster or w/e the caster decides to protect... I'm not saying it's not something to be used in conjunction with Kurama but consider the fact that it is chakra and it's chakra being manipulated.
Also I don't think Susanoo is hollow as you state. I distinctly remember Sasuke's and Itachi's developing tendons and muscle like tissue over the skeletal frames. Essentially... Kurama is in a chakra cloak.
The Perfect Susanoo is hollow. The one in the first image.
What makes you sure it's hollow?
Pretty sure the author is just making it up as he goes. Not saying that is a bad thing though.
Well mouths are usually hollow or have space to fit things in... kind of their purpose! xd
I see what you're getting at but the same could be said for the fact that Madara may just be making it all fit together. I don't think having Kurama in the cloak is making his susanoo stronger... it's just as tho he's using susanoo and Kurama, except now he's just converging the arsenal they posses, at one point.
