I, too, think it's a bit of a stretch to actually send the main characters out to space, despite the fact that the moon has a bigger role in the story than most people think. Such a twist doesn't suit the story at all.

Why? It'd be an amazing adventure. I'm sure Oda will do it and it will be the arc that parallels Skypiea since we'll see Enel there.

It's not like Luffy to detour the entire planet inside and out just for the sake of it, he's on a mission to find One Piece... doing that would take too long unless he had a motive.
