I think you forgot konan. She prepared for and nearly blew up the main bad guy. The only reason she lost is because he secretly had the only real conter for it. Of course she's a side character so she can't win.

How can people mention deidara and kakuza to be one of the smartest and not sasori?

because kakazu keeps a cool head and analyzes the situatuin (and he can stand waiting if he has too )
