She can split to limit damage to small portions. Even if those portions die, the rest of the slug remains.

Well, the nature of the slug is that it has never directly taken damage in the series (Orochimaru didn't think to use Lightning or Fire Styles against it, implying they wouldn't work).

But even if it does take damage, there is too much of it to make a difference.
