Well, it's nice that it was "close to beating" One Piece, but being close is nowhere equal being better.

Because if he makes one of the main a little bit badass and revelant then no doubt we will gain more popular. K11 need more jutsu and awesome momment.
Just look at the weakingling trio, sakura and kiba is no where near their level of badass and hillarious as them.
Like how Ussopp defeated sugar vs sakura punch to the ground.....

Many people buy volumes of older mangas because they are not buying Jump magazine anymore and yet want to read the story which had gotten them curious at one point or from collector's POV because of nostalgia.

Naruto readers- most of these people read it online and have discussed it to death to take it out of their system. They have had so much of Naruto that they don't need volumes anymore. :p

No but does sale of volume equals being better? Even Doraemon is high on the list.. >_>

Anyway this is the image of the recent stats of total sales ( Japan only) according to Wikipedia.

Data outside of Japan is hard to find as one will have to find the stats for each country where it's available, individually and then add it all and compare.

For example -According to one source for France(2013):

"In manga, four new Naruto volumes sold 200,000 each, One Piece sold four volumes from 150 000 to170 000, and Fairy Tail had seven volumes selling between 90,000 and 115,000 each."
