Ok, this is mostly wishful thinking since people won't make this effort, however here it goes:

We keep saying to people "use the search button" before posting a thread or making a CJ or something like that. However, most of the times, the search doesn't come up with anything or anything useful.

This is mostly because of the thread titles since sometimes they only say "Question" or "RP Question" or some random broad title that doesn't specify what is in the thread.

What i purpose is to make a simple sticky that explains how to properly title the threads and how to label threads (like trainings, bios, Own CJ thread, application threads) but specially, question threads. This way using the search button would be easier and would work a bit better.

Ok, i know about 60% don't use the search button and some of those won't start using it. However, i use it and it sometimes doesn't wield results mostly because the threads are named wrong and sometimes the posts themselves can't be explicit enough to trigger the search. I know that this would be hard work and such but it may be worth it.

Also, i suggest that in some sections, like the RP, some changes are made to titles of some types of threads (mainly, Own Custom Thread, Bios, Trainings and Testings) that should follow a simple template that would make it easier to search for them if needed.

Example:

Tests should be labeled something like this:

[Bio Test] - Mu bio (Scorps)

[Sensei Test] - Scorps

[Tournament Match #99] - Scorps Vs Scary Yamato

Trainings should be labeled like this:

[Water Training] - Scorps

[Taijutsu Training] - Scorps

Bios:

[Bio] Ao

[Special Bio] Danzou

Etc Etc.

This basically serves to cover some small things in the RP that are hard to spot. For example, a user X who is Jounin posts a A-Rank Earth CJ in the thread. If a mod wants to find out if that X member had earth training up to that level, it would be impossible since the training threads are named so randomly as can be. Also, lets take bios for example. If someone makes a Raikage bio, how can you search for his Taijutsu and Lightning trainings? Ok, you assume they followed the requirements and you can make them post the proof, but even so it would be easier to just use the search button. For example, a sensei application. If someone applies, you infer that he has Taijutsu, Genjutsu up to B-Rank, Ninjutsu and Elemental Ninjutsu complete. however, unless they post the proofs, its impossible to search through the training threads and find it. And most people will be unable to find their own training threads within their thread list.

This idea would help a bit with some organization of the site, although i realize that it wouldn't change the whole problem with multi threads about the same thing and some sections, like the manga one and chatterbox, would still be immune to these alterations. However, in some more moderated sections, like the RP and the Suggestions and Questions, it would be quite useful i think.

When you use the search function it's searching for anything with what you've written in them. Assuming you go with threads, it will pull up the threads with that word somewhere in that thread.

Also that's not the only way of searching either. Using the example of the Raikage bio, if you're really desperate about looking for them, look in the threads they've created instead. It doesn't have to be just using the search option, it can be manual as well.

I like the idea of organisation, but not really the idea of having the certain way of labeling things, since it's not even looking for the title alone when you use the search option.

I know the search button searches everything in the thread. But sometimes its not that linear. The fact that some things in the site would be organized with certain tittles would mean you would be able to search through them better with the search button as you would know more or less what to write in the search button or how to search it. A manual search is always an option but with people that have like 3000 thread starters...impossible.

I guess that would be okay. Maybe if there was an advanced search option, which I'm not sure if there is or not, is search certain forums like say, the Training Grounds for threads started by certain users and see it like that. I'm pretty sure something like that could be implemented, but idk.

Also who makes 3000 different threads? :p

thank you i hope this gets stickied so everybody sees it
Why would it get stickied? It's an idea, not a rep *****'s guide.

It's a great idea, easy to do. I support this fully, it's up to an admin whether he finds it useful and want to alter the prefixes for every section.

Loled ^^

3000 threads is a bit too much i believe. But i'v seen people with other 1500 threads. Its easy peasy when you spam the Naruto Manga Section and the Vs part and the Chatterbox or even those who spam this section with questions. ^^

Thanks to all for the positive feedback ^^

I just looked over the thread again, more specifically the starter tags, and I think I interpreted you wrongly. Did you mean that people can search for different tags? Because I've seen that before on vBulletin, and I know it could work, considering there's not too many starter tags. Maybe if it were dumed down to basic elements, ninja skills, and kekkei genkai it might work, since that's not too many tags, and people usually label what they're in training for anyway. :)

I don't endorse the overuse of the search function on this forum. I like it for certain things, but it uses a lot of resources.
I made the mistake of posting a thread on how to view forum stats, and now the forum stats are gone.

Hum....I didn't think of it as a resource consumer. :/ Well, still, if the threads are named correctly, it will make it easier to find, with or without the search function and when used, it will show the correct results more easily and as such, it will mean in overall, less usage of the search button.

However, if its something to get the forum down or to take away functionality or speed, then we should leave it at that. The stability of the site comes first obviously.

Good Idea about labeling all the RP stuff. I've already been doing this for the Bio tests so I could reference them later and I beleive others are beginning to follow suit. I like the idea of having everything standardized but that is just my personal preference.

I support this idea

I don't know if V has ever turned tags on. I'm not sure I'd want tags on a forum this size, but you can suggest it. That would make your suggestions easier to implement.
