The science of smoke, and Smokers potential.
Hello everybody. In this thread I’ll be going over about how Smoker has been handled, the logic of smoke, and his future potential abilities.
How Smoker has been handled.
The Science of Smoke
REASSASSMENT AND FINAL CONCLUSION OF THE MOKU MOKU FRUIT.
Now the most exciting part, which I encourage contributions for! Smokers future potential abilities.
All of the abilities listed here are things he can already do really, but just has not yet shown in the manga.
Thank you for reading and hope you enjoyed! If you noticed a mistake please notify me of it, I'll correct it asap.
Don't forget to rate the thread as well, and most importantly let me know what you think!
Hello everybody. In this thread I’ll be going over about how Smoker has been handled, the logic of smoke, and his future potential abilities.
How Smoker has been handled.
One Piece imo is a 10/10 manga, but one of my biggest gripes is how Smoker has been handled. He’s only ever taken out fodders, those of which were handled off screen, and whenever he steps to an actually strong character, he gets beat hysterically, and often times in 1 chapter. I dislike that and feel that he, well, hasn’t been nerfed per say, but hasn’t made any progress either, aside from obtaining Amour haki. But understand I am not saying he is weak! Smoker is very powerful! He just has not gotten a chance to go all the way out yet, on screen, and show us what he can really do. Plus the full extent of his abilities have not yet been realized.
Now, before we go into the science of smoke, let’s understand that the Moku Moku fruit is a fruit of strategy and tactic, rather than destruction, and that characters develop attacks based on their personality complexes. Smoker, who has earned himself the nickname ‘The White Hunter’ has developed a majority of his attacks around seizing an opponent in their tracks and capturing them as a hunter does. But when you’re constantly having your prey escape the grasp of your hands by the shadow of a hair and getting being beaten by high-tier opponents, there comes a time when you have to start going on the offensive. So with that being said, let’s dive into the science of the Moku Moku fruit.

The Science of Smoke
First of all, I’d just like to point out a general characteristic of smoke; it makes people cough. A huge issue I have with Oda’s handling of this ability is that nobody ever seems to have an issue with inhaling smoke into their lungs. In fact, smoke can be just dangerous as, if not more dangerous, than poison because it’s not something your body can be trained to develop an immunity to. He has not taken advantage of this effect to disrupt a persons breathing pattern in battle, which is quite frustrating considering it’s an effect that should automatically take place when his smoke is released.
Moving on, let’s define what smoke is.
Smoke is a collection of tiny solid, liquid and gas particles. Although smoke can contain many different chemicals and fumes, visible smoke is mostly carbon (soot), tar, oils and ash. This is the primary form of smoke that Smoker uses, visible smoke.
Smoke occurs during incomplete combustion (when there is not enough oxygen to burn a fuel completely). So in essence, smoke can exist without oxygen, which baffled me when he passed out during the confrontation with Caesar. When incomplete combustion occurs, not everything is burned… smoke is the collection of these tiny, unburned particles. Each particle is too small to see, but when they come together, you see them as smoke.
Other dangers of smoke are that it contains flammable compounds. In areas of high oxygen, these compounds can be ignited through a flame, or their own high temperature. Smoke also obscures visibility, making it difficult to evacuate from it’s cover, and cause more damage to buildings than flames or heat.

REASSASSMENT AND FINAL CONCLUSION OF THE MOKU MOKU FRUIT.
So now let’s reassess the function of the Moku Moku Fruit. This ability grants the user complete control over the element of smoke, as well as turning into it. It activates itself by the user manifesting particles of debris from the air, and forming it into whatever they want to. This is very advantageous, as debris is inescapable… it’s everywhere on earth. This makes a nod back to what I said before about it being a fruit of strategy and tactic rather than destruction. Smoke does not destruct. It constructs out of destructed particles and forms a visible, foggy, dangerous substance known as ‘smoke’. So, knowing this we can conclude that the prowess of Smokers abilities increase with the destruction bought on in a battle.
Now the most exciting part, which I encourage contributions for! Smokers future potential abilities.
Smoke Stream
I got this idea from learning about the jet streams of water and the damage they’re capable of doing… did you know they can even tear through steel? Well a similar move can be applied to smoke where he sets his hands at the target, opens his palms, and fires a stream of smoke as fast as he can, with the highest level of density. This would be a 1 shotter of course, considering it would decimate anything in it’s way.
White Javelin
He creates a javelin out of smoke, increases the density to the point of piercing, and fires away.
Smoke Bomb
Creates a cluster of smoke and fires it at an opponents like various Fishman did with their water dripplets.
Particle Eruption
Smoker sneaks up on his opponent, creates a smoke bomb, and ignites it with his lighter. If successful, it will explode at point blank range. This will only work in areas of high oxygen.
Smoke Shield
A shield he could make out of strong density. It wouldn't be used for defending against large scale attacks, like say Gomu Gomu Elephant Gun, but would have a status effect of exploding when hit, and blurring the opponents senses.
Smoker Explosion
Smoker gathers up all smoke he can inside of his body and explodes himself, releasing clouds of smoke in all direction. This would be an extreme status effecter, obscuring vision, breathing, smell, and sense of touch.
White Wolves
Smoker has associated himself with popular animal hunters as well, such as snakes, with his attack named 'white snake'. It's the ability he used in Alabarna where he turns his hand completely into smoke, increases the density of it, and makes it pursue an opponent. It does not stop moving until it captures them.
So with the timeskip and all his abilities moving up a notch, I think this ability will be upgraded to a more cunning sinister predator, wolves, giving it the name White Wolves. With this attack, he turns not one, but both of his hands into smoke and form them into wolves. They will be an upgrade by becoming faster, reaching further than the White Snake, and grasping at the target harder once they are captured. Now it would be kind of pointless to have 2 predators going after the same prey, so one arm would be for capturing and securing, and the second could be for running into them and exploding so that they won't escape.
