The Scarlet Rot (赤腐敗, Aka Fuhai), also known as the Rot or Red Rot, is an exceptionally rare bio-organic substance that manifests as a fine pale red powder. It was first produced during the Great War by the ancient Basmu, Beast of Rot. Since then, the Scarlet Rot has held a lingering presence in the far West, rarely occurring in small disparate communities. Over successive generations it has come to be regarded as a curse, one that still persists deep below the earth waiting to emerge again over the land. Some who have come into contact with the curse have weaponized it for their own purposes, gaining its strength and turning it against their enemies as a nightmarish and agonizingly slow death.
Scarlet Rot is a property of the user’s genetics, described as a curse by some. The curse of Rot manifests from the user’s body, existing within them for the remainder of their lives. Possessing the Curse of Scarlet Rot is a painful experience for those that are cursed. They slowly wither away, their body writhing in agony. Despite this they are still able to fight. Their bodies become accustomed to the pain and adjusted for combat, similar to those of the Kaguya Clan.
Controlling the Curse of Scarlet Rot is done similarly to that of Sand Ninjutsu. The user applies their Chakra to release and control Scarlet Rot. Properties of Scarlet Rot varies by the user’s proficiency with the field. In the hands of the host of the Beast of Rot, Scarlet Rot is a menacing weapon. While in the hands of other users is it more comparable to Poison Ninjutsu. By default, Scarlet Rot is an efficient biological weapon. It is strong to organic matter, including Wood Release and Shikotsumyaku. It can be used and weaponized like Sand Ninjutsu, making it a versatile tool. The Beast of Rot and its host, considered advanced users, are able to access the full potency of the Scarlet Rot. While it normally deals flat damage over time when applied by basic users, the Beast and its host can inflict damage as a percentage of the target’s maximum Health Points.
The most unique aspect of Scarlet Rot is that it is capable of blooming new life from those it takes life from. Life bloomed from Scarlet Rot is pale, red, pink, and orange or some combination of these four. It often manifests as mushroom-like organics but can also appear as cacti and other exotic-flora lifeforms. Basic users are not able to control these lifeforms as they do not directly control the Authority of the Beast of Rot. The Beast of Rot and its host is able to apply their Authority to control them, using them to spread more Scarlet Rot and bloom new life.
Curing Scarlet Rot is typically done by inflicting damage upon one’s self with Fire Release. In order to cure it a Fire Release technique with higher Chakra than the Scarlet Rot technique used to infest a target must be used to cure the user. It must inflict damage at the point of infestation. When done the damage inflicted to the user by their Fire Release technique is reduced by 50%. Alternatively, the user can cure Scarlet Rot with Yang Release or Suen. However, only Fire Release or Suen can be used to cure the Scarlet Rot of the Beast of Rot.
Abilities
- A Basic User’s Scarlet Rot inflicts 10 damage per turn over a period of four turns. Advanced Users are able to inflict damage by percentage, inflicting 40% of the target’s Health Points per turn over four turns, 10% each turn. This makes Scarlet Rot extremely powerful against targets with higher-than-normal health pools.
- Is strong to organic elements and fields; examples of this include Shikotsumyaku and Wood Release. Scarlet Rot is able to essentially infest the target and rot it from within. Symptoms of this include fever, external hemorrhage, and gangrene.
- Likewise, it is weak to Fire Release and Fire-based fields, including elements like Blaze Release. The key to curing Scarlet Rot is through self-inflicted damage with the high temperatures provided by Fire Release. Alternatively, curing the effects of Scarlet Rot can be achieved with Yang Release or Suen. Though against the Rot of the Beast only the Divine physical healing of Suen, or the raw purifying flames of Fire-based elements, can do this.
- Scarlet Rot is able to bloom new life. Those that become infested or, worse yet, perish to the curse will find an array of exotic plant life sprouting from their body.
- The Basmu, Beast of Rot and its host are considered Advanced Users of the field.
- Those who wield Scarlet Rot, with the exception of the host of the Beast of Rot, are generally frail biographies that suffer from its degenerative biological nature. Biographies with this field cannot have Health Pools that exceed the standard for their rank; if a biography has a Health Point boost it is cancelled out by the Scarlet Rot’s presence.
