The Sand Witches of Sunagakure: Major Arcana

Growing on the Dunes with my sister outside the village was a free-living yet at times lonely childhood. When our parents died my Jie Jie (big sister) cared and loved me until she died. She never told me her name and I was never told mine... it didn't matter... we had each other and who needs a name when you have family and friends.

One day, two mysterious women came to our home and asked us for water. We let them in and provided them with food, drink and shelter for the night. They told us they were from the main village and specialised in a special kind of jitsu... one with cards. They said they would tell us our future...

Jie Jie was so excited! Life really was quite boring & this was great fun. They took out a pack of cards, opened & shuffled them, then asked her to shuffle them and pick 3 cards...

... as you can guess she did this and had the following cards:

1. Death 2. Love 3. The Tower struck by lightening

Their eyes norrowed and heads tilted down like perfectly synchronised puppets...

"What does this mean?" she said... we knew it wasn't good...

They said together at the same time:"Death has been at your beginning in life and with it good changes...
Love... well... maybe you should tell your little sister the truth young lady!"

Jie Jie sighed and then explained to me that when I was a baby a family of travellers had come by our home and stayed with us. They were rich and our parents were very poor. They had a young son and upon seeing me (my sister was already arranged to be married to another boy who she'd not met yet when she grew up) asked for an arrangement to be made...

... by the time I would be 9 years old I would be taken by this family and be prepared for marriage.

I was stunned. I felt sick! How could I leave my Jie Jie or home? I remember I cried and then both ladies reached for me and took respectively one of my hands each...

... "The Tower struck by Lightening ... destruction and danger. Whatever happens, there will be loss, change and maybe death but don't loose help dear girls"

They handed me the rest of the pack and asked me to pick just 1 card. I couldn't stop crying so both my Jie Jie and I picked a card together...

..."The World... how strange! The card of completeness, peace, happiness and contentment. It seems whatever bad things happen in the near future... overall you'll both be eternally whole and one with everything."

It was late and I still could not stop crying and shaking... my Jie Jie held me and we all went to bed. The next morning, the 2 ladies left us.

A few months later... the family Jie Jie told me about had visited us (I only knew this because by her beaten body (she was barely alive) they wrote a note saying 'We want what is ours, you have not given what you've promised so we'll take what you have'). I was not there as I had left to gather water whilst my Jie Jie had cooked us lunch. That was pain... thankfully we were found by members of the village who came to do some scientific experiments in the Dunes and where we stayed until she passed away.

I know that our last card will come true too... I'll make sure of that!

Thanks for reading this!
