The Sanbi could have potentially caused more damage than the Kyuubi

I've seen people state that Rin throwing herself in front of Kakashi's Chidori was not necessary as Konoha would have dealt with it easily. But people aren't taking into consideration what was happening at the time. The reason Konoha was able to do so well in handling the Kyuubi was because the third great ninja war was over, meaning that everybody was back in Konoha. But when the Mist were pursuing Rin, the third ninja war was still going on. This means that people like Minato, Ino-Shika-Cho etc, would all be out on missions. Hiruzen would not have been enough to stop a whole tailed beast, leaving the Uchiha who would likely be in a meeting or the Hyuga. The Sanbi could have easily caused equal or more damage than the Kyuubi did, that's why Rin thought is was neccesary to jump in and sacrifice herself.

So by virtue of the situation, not the actual strength of the tailed beast.

Komnoha would have dealt with it IMO. both Hiruzen and Minato knew the reaper death seal which htey would use to seal the sanbi providing Konoha with another bijuu.

Well Rin was acting according to her conscience, why risk having some Konohans killed by Sanbi's potential assault if she could prevent that from happening by ending her life.

Minato was fighting. Remember he was a major cause of winning the war. No way Hiruzen takes on a Bijuu. Alongside several Ninja they barely managed to push back Kurama. It may be weaker than Kurama, but the lack of military resources and men at Hiruzen's disposal would be his downfall.

I really doubt Sanbi could have done more damage than Kyyubi.
Deidara was able to defeat Sanbi so easily by exploding his basic clay bombs near Sanbi's eyes.
Comparing Sanbi to Kyyubi - Kyyubi has 9-Tails & Sanbi has 3-Tails so Sanbi is 3 time weaker than Kyyubi at-least.
Hiruzen alone would have enough to seal Sanbi. Being a Hokage, Hiruzen must have learnt some kind of sealing jutsu which could have been useful in that situation. Hiruzen has Enma so not much military strength is required. That's my opinion.

well,Hiruzen can take on a bijuu with enma. he can just push it aside and seal it in to some other Konoha ninja(even Rin herself) and make it konohas bijuu.

well mate , from the very beginning of the series we all read that the more tails a tail beast has , the most powerfull he is , so ... Kurama > Sanbi.
