Just because it is worded like that doesn't mean he split himself into two different people, it could simply mean that he had two sons in his life time and each one inherited different traits.

You don't get it. Rikudou was both of the clanes, but after he died the sons took each role, Elder the Uchiha and younger the Senju, which long in the future had something to do with the Uzumaki (only senju),

It's like me saying Naruto is an Senju, or Tsunade is an Uzumaki

There have been a lot of threads concerning this issue... there isn't any proof that the sage is uzumaki, and the manga has clearly stated that the sage is the ancestor of the senju and uchiha. I'm not convinced that the sage is uzumaki but I do believe that the uzumaki are descended from him. The only explanation I've heard for his white hair is that he overexerted himself when he fought and sealed the juubi and his hair turned white, just like nagato.

you people are making the uzamaki clan more relevant than they really are. They are distant cousins of the senju and that is all.
