Two of the best of all time The Rock amd Stone Cold. I could never choose which one is better. I kind of like The Rock a little more but Stone Cold is still badass and I love him.
These to guys are the top 2 all time, I will not put anyone in 1st and 2nd place. Both those guys are right there and nobody will take it.

Both were awesome. If it weren't for injuries, Stone Cold would still be active IMO.
No one - and I mean no one (pun intended) - can do what Stone Cold Steve Austin did.
If we were to analyze who contributed more to the Attitude Era, then Stone Cold would be No.1 on that list, followed by The Corporation faction and then The Rock.
Both Dwayne and Austin got beyond-craze mic skills but Stone Cold is better in the ring. Too bad, he's no more in the same shape. The Rock is fitter than Stone Cold right now.
Both are awesome. The Rock got much more mainstream appeal than Austin but Stone Cold compensate with his badass rebel attitude.
Overall, Stone Cold is better. One of my all-time favorite - perhaps 2nd on the list.

Rock is more popular. many can recite multiple of the Rocks famous lines like, jabroni, lay the smackdown, stick my boot up your candy ass, if you smell lalalalalala la what the rock is cooking. you ask a person what was Stone Colds line and they will say "what?" (lol pun)
but Rock made up words that are now officially in the english language like jabroni and smackdown. WWE Smackdown was named after the rocks catchphrase. the WWE blew up because of the Rock.
the Rock has way better charisma than Stone Cold. he can make you love him even if hes a heel, or "bad guy". the Rock can sing a song, diss a whole state or country and have that same audience laughing and rolling.

Is it wrong that I really am not major fans of either of them? I really just can't get into to either of them. I get both are larger than life personas who were the Attitude Era, but I just don't like them. I enjoy them, but am not a huge fan.

You are not being fair because you're not comparing them in their primes. You're comparing who's the most in-shape in 2012 and who's more popular in 2012?
Also, your friend is racist :| Personally, I always say that people may not like Stone Cold or The Rock but if you're a WWF/WWE and yet you don't recognize their impact in WWE, then you never knew how awesome Attitude Era was..
Sure, The Rock was already in his league before Stone Cold but Stone Cold main-evented almost all PPVs for almost 3 years; despite Rock's presence. The rare times when Rock main-evented something back then was against Stone Cold most notably.
Check this and you'd know that even if The Rock was already someone Iconic, Stone Cold was the Ruler.
The Rock got many catchphrases because he's a master in trash-talk and taking jabs. Stone Cold is more badass. Despite his almost on-par mic skills, he's straight to the point and follows up with a volley of swearwords. IMO, Stone Cold perhaps have recited more impactful words than The Rock but since each swearworded promos can't become popular, it was never advertised as such.
I think there's two nicknames that define both of them perfectly. Stone Cold as "The Toughest Son of a Bitch in the WWF" and The Rock as "The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment". This confirms that The Rock does promos for the crowd and thus is more entertaining. However, Stone Cold's promos are bloody hell cold and straight-forward. There are so many who became mute after a Stone Cold's promo.
Still, Stone-Cold got 2 of the biggest catchphrases -"3:16" and "What?". There's not a single crowd that never chanted "What?". Sure, nowadays, it's more of "Yes, Yes, Yes!!!" but What will never fade ever. Also, there may millions and millions of iconic promos that The Rock cut but I never saw him cut one better than this one.

This promo is rated among the most iconic one by many critics. Sure, The Rock got numerous epic ones but for this time, quality thumps quantity. Tell me if there's someone who think of the Bible when they heard 3:16. 3:16 is greater than Do You Smell... And "That's the Bottom Line..." is on the same level as "It Doesn't Matter What you Think"
Also, The Rock may have face Lesnar, Hogan, Goldberg and even Cena but whatsoever, I'm sure Stone Cold would have done the same if he was there at that time. Stone Cold got the merits to feature in THE greatest feud of them all. Rock v/s Hogan, Rock v.s Cena, Rock v/s DX ect... are all feuds but none are up to the level of Stone Cold v/s The Corporation. And last reminder, Stone Cold leads 2-1 against The Rock at Wrestlemania.
