The reincarnations of Ashura and Indra

I've been wondering something, since Hagoromo knew that Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju were the previous reincarnations of his sons, why didn't he appear to them when they were close to death? It appears that Hashirama knew nothing about the Sage at all, until Madara told him in chapter 646 what he saw in the Uchiha tablet. I doubt that they even knew that they were the reincarnations. And then again, when Naruto and Sasuke were close to death, Hagoromo's spirit appeared before them in their minds, telling them his tale and stuff, and most importantly - giving them, the reincarnations of his sons, his power. It can be explained in only one way - the fact that Madara really resembled Indra and was following his ancestor's footsteps, while Sasuke is different - he's on the good side, he wants to protect his village and change the current shinobi system, which caused so many wars. That's for Sasuke, as for Naruto, we all know that he's the Child of Prophecy, the one with the Tailed Beasts and stuff... The main roles for this goes to Madara and Sasuke. Hagoromo wanted the reincarnations of his sons to bring peace to the world, which Naruto and Sasuke will most likely do, while with Madara and Hashirama, well, things would've been different if Madara received that God-like power for his selfish plans. What are your thoughts?

I think Hagoromo appeared because Madara messed everything up, he was supposted to be that and it's time for Naruto and Sasuke to step in. But what I think the most is that Hagoromo believes that Naruto and Sasuke are the ones who will break this circle of this ongoing war between the reincarnations. And they will be the once who bring peace. And maybe also because naruto is the guy he told the bijuus about, you know they guy who will show them true strength

Yeah, you are right about the circle. It may be one of the main reasons for his appearance.

Sasuke knows nothing about the Bijuu in particular. And no, he doesn't want to kill Naruto.

Hogoromo didn't like hashi or maddy.

OT: this is an interesting thought. I don't relly know why he never appeared to madara or/and hashirama. Maybe he realised that if he doesn't appear to both of his sons reincarnations the cycle will continue. So he decided to start with naruto and sasuke

I think it has something to do with the juubi and all the bijuu being present in this war. In the fight between madara and hashi there was just Kyuubi present. Also the sage told naruto that he wouldn't interfere with the way things were going and that it would be selfish of him. So he probably just watched things go down but he realised that this generation of indra and ashura might be the last I mean with madara threatening the world and becoming kaguya. So in simple terms, things weren't as serious back then as things are now its do or die. Sage had to take action this time
