was closer to death straight away is because he's half Uzumaki, as opposed to Kushina who was full Uzumaki - hence the red hair and ability to stay conscious, able to suppress Kurama and stay alive for a while after extraction.

But it's great life force, not great stamina that the Uzumaki are renown for. Nagato and Naruto being exceptions to the rule. Great stamina is one of the traits that belong to the Senju Clan.
