The reason why Hiruzen was called by his surname sarutobi instead of his name.

We can see that in the old times in shinobi world people fear to tell what is their surname or fear to tell he or she is from what clan. Bec ause they fear that they will get killed. If my thinking is right sarutobi hiruzen , the third hokage was also born from that time were people fear to tell surname. But then why Hashirama and Tobirama alwayas call him as sarutobi instead of calling as hiruzen ?

I have the answer!!! because hiruzen is always proud about his clan!! Unlike others he didn't fear about telling his sur names to other clan members or enemy....Hashirama and Tobirama found this interesting and they always called him in the sur name.

Its a thing of common sense that shinobi did'nt used to tell their names for the sake of safety.If hashi would have told his surname to madara would the present chapter could have came into existence.The clan at that times used to have territories which would have been much smaller than the villages and every second person was an enemy of the first acc. To their inheritence.During Saturobi times the village was formed so the feeling of unsafety was gone to a larger extent.they used to live in a region where clans have founded a friendly alliance and instead the village rivalry had aroused.Now I dont think any konoha's child will meet a kumo's child at a nearby brook while play what just is happening in the current chapter between hashi and madara.

The shinobi village system was already estabilished when Hiruzen was born, so there was no problem doing that.
The "never tell your surname" rule seems to be a part of the endless wild clan wars.

Hiruzen wasn't a ****y. He could say his suname anytime he wanted. He'll take down anybody. He is The God of Shinobi (忍の神, Shinobi no Kami)

Well 'Dont tell your Surname to strangers' was a Clan Wars Era precaution so that the Enemy Clans may not get information . . . . . also I dont think Hiruzen was a stranger to anyone in the village.
