I've always wondered why he had them. Is it because his mother was the jin of the 9 tails while she was pregnant with him and some of the 9 tails chakra was going to naruto? Just wondering, let me know what you all think about it.

Yeah, I think it was stated at some point that this was the case. Would also explain why Himawari and Boruto have those whisker marks, though since their father was the Jinchuuriki this time around, it isn't as prominent in them.

But yeah. Theoretically, one of Tsunade's parents also has those whiskers marks because of Mito.

Yep, jinchuuriki have their chakra fused with the bijuu so if their child inherits their chakra they also inherit some of the tailed beast chakra which explains why Ashura had RSM and BM avatar.

Kurama and naruto were fighting for space and food in kushina's stomach. Those whiskers are actually the remaining scars from those fights.

Yep, jinchuuriki have their chakra fused with the bijuu so if their child inherits their chakra they also inherit some of the tailed beast chakra which explains why Ashura had RSM and BM avatar.

So another question would be, if naruto never became the 9 tails jin would he still have some of kuramas power.

Before Boruto and Hinawari, the reason seemed to be a result of CONSUMING Biju chakra/ flesh. The reason Kin and Gin had them was because they physically ATE flesh from inside Kurama's stomach. The reason Naruto had them was because he CONSUMED nourishment from his mother who's chakra was mixed with Kurama's. This seemed to explain why hosts like Kushina and Mito did not have them, simply because they did not ingest the chakra, only hosted it.

But as I said, this was before the Boruto and Hinawari cases which seem to break the pattern. While the whiskers are less prominent in them, having only 2 on each side instead of 3, but they still have them. Since Hinata did not host the biju, it does not make sense that they would spawn whiskers unless Hinata somehow adopted nine tails chakra into her own body. Bottom line? It all made sense until Kishi broke the pattern with Boruto and Hinawari.
