Conclusion

Being annoyed by his physiological needs, Madara decided to deal with the needs in the easiest way possible.​

I agree. He just took care of his physiological needs by attaching that arm.. If he lost a leg I suppose he'd use a zetsu leg... whatever got damaged first he was going to replace.
