I think ichigo can unleash gentsuga tenshou because of his father's reiatsu which was present inside ichigo's mother. I think the old man zangestsu hid his true ability (getsuga tenshou is merely an imitation of his fathers although it is a superior quality one). I even made a thread about this that ichigo's abilities are merely imitations and that the true one will be taught by the hollow.

There is no hollow to teach him anymore.

I still wonder if he will be able to use his hollow powers...
