I like how some people in this thread is basing Itachi's sickness on actual AIDS and using it to back up their claim.

But that doesn't explain why Itachi didn't use Yata Mirror against Kabuto.

He didn't need it. Kabuto couldn't break through Susanoo. He was able to stop Susanoo from being used at one point, but the yata mirror wouldn't have helped there. He only managed to hit Itachi when Itachi was too worried about Sasuke to protect himself.

are you thick headed? He didnt want to seal kabuto, he wanted to use him to end edo tensei. how could he do that if he seals him? EXPLAINED. ok so now what?

EDIT: I see you said only yata, that still doesnt matter. Itachi for one didnt appear to need yata, he used susano'o by itself. second, its possible that yata would not be ideal to use against kabuto. he already had him in izanami after all. he already knew what needed to be done and did it. most of the fight was going on in kabutos head after izanami.

Why didn't he spam Yata against Kabuto??

Yata is purely defensive and would not kill Kabuto.

It would have saved him a huge headache.

What was he going to do, cast yata mirror and ram him?

That would actually be hilarious to see though...

I don't think yata would protect him from sound genjustu and he can just run away from Itachi like a cat and mouse game.

Well, I remember Kabuto biting through susanno.

Yata would have helped here.

But it would deflect Kabuto's attack. If the attack came back in Kabuto's direction, it would hurt him.

Also, I think it was more of a factor that he could not. We have only seen Itachi use Yata Mirror when he goes full sussano. Sasuke and Itachi could not do that in the fight with Kabuto, they had to stick to ribcages because Kabuto had the location advantage and the cave was too cramped.

He didn't use Yata in that fight mainly because he could not due to where they were.

Because Kabuto is incredibily skilled and could have place his control tag on Itachi at any instant of weakness.

That Mirror would have help him a lot.

Unless, the mirror would have drained him too much.

So the ultimate shield that can defend any attack, can't defend itself from a cave-in?

Sasuke's exploding tags didn't fly back.

Besides, Kabuto regenerates from anything, making it almost impossible to actually kill him and Itachi knows this.

Yata would have helped here.

It wouldn't have. Both of the Susanoo's hands were busy holding Kabuto. If he was even using the Susanoo's ribcage, Kabuto wouldn't have hurt him.

Yata would have helped here.

No, no it would not have. That's a page from chapter 586 where Izanami was activated.
It was activated here, on pg 4:

You posted pg 10, which is when we got to see what Kabuto was seeing while trapped in Izanami. When he bit Itachi's arm off, that didn't actually happen. That was genjutsu.

Actually in the panel shown there. Itachi only had one Susanoo hand on Kabuto. The other hand belonged to Sasuke's Susanoo. But I still see your point. I think in that particular situation it was an error in judgment on Itachi's part. Rather than have both Susanoo hand active he only had one at that moment in which case the OP has a point. If the other hand was materialized yata mirror would probably have saved his arm.

But agreed itachi should have had the Susanoo ribcage out. Maybe it's difficult to switch between the variations of Susanoo on the fly perhaps?

Ah so this came before the whole Susanoo hand grab eh? Well yeah yata wouldn't have been necessary then as kabuto was already under the effects of izanami.

Itachi's one susanno arm punched through the cave wall. You know that's not what I meant. I don't really see any point in the Uchiha bros destroying the cave entirely just so they can fight in the open. That's not the brightest idea to suggest that they should waste the time, chakra, and energy to do so and let Kabuto roam around as they do that. Kabuto wouldn't allow that to happen anyway, the cave reacts to sage mode chakra and it's not as if he'd stand there and let that happen. He'd try to attack them while they attempt that. Not that smart to purposely cause a cave-in that wouldn't benefit you nor would it work.

Sasuke's exploding tags didn't fly back.

-Now that I look at it again, Yata does not always repel attacks. It just renders them ineffective. You're right.:)

-Even though Kabuto was insanely op at the moment Itachi was fighting him, both of the Uchiha bros stated that they were holding back to fight him as well. They were not going all out. Both sides had their disadvantages in the fight.

Itachi's last jutsu was putting Amateratsu into Sasuke's eye..

If Itachi could put Amateratsu into Sasuke's eye, then he could've used it himself.. The jutsu takes chakra so Itachi used his last bit of chakra by giving Sasuke Amateratsu to use on Tobi. If that's the case, Itachi committed suicide.

He could have Amateratsu'd Sasuke , but instead transferred it into him to use on someone else.

Sure Itachi was sick, but there's no way he could have timed the fight so precisely that he dies from the disease at the fight's conclusion.

The more sensible answers come from Yata Mirror and Tosuka Blade. They simply drain too much chakra/life force.

If they are as OP as most people make it to be, then this must definitely be the case. (Tresured tools anyone?)

He used Tosuka against Nagato, but that was just a one time thing. He most likely can't sustain it for long, even in Edo Form.

That is why he didn't use Yata against Kabuto. It would have drained him so much, he wouldn't have recovered in time to defeat Kabuto.

We know one thing, Itachi moments after bringing those weapons out.

Many thought that it was Susanno that killed him, but that isn't the case as we see Madara and Sasuke spam Susano.

So it was the weapons that killed him.

Bold: I was under the impression that he died because of a combination of things that strained and/or damaged his body during his fight with Sasuke while his body was weakened by the disease, rather than dying from only the disease directly or any single cause.
