I never thought i'd make a Jiraiya appreciation thread. As a character, he's literally just Master Roshi from DBZ but one aspect of him that has always been underrated IMO is the way he actually had a horrible, dark life. On par with Sasuke or Naruto's. And yet he remains a huge goofball.

This guy underwent world wars, was born weak, constant denial of a woman (who he did actually maturely love lets be real here) witnessed his sensei and favourite student die before him, had his team fall apart and Orochimaru leave the village, was brought up being told he was the chlid of prophecy when it fact this was incorrect and was killed brutally by his own students before being able to finish his life's work, Tales of a Gutsy Ninja.

Jiraiya had a tragic, hard hard life from the get-go. He just never let it change him as a person unlike [enter any Uchiha name here ___________]

Agree with everything except undervalued, I think everyone(mostly) understood just who Jiraiya really was, very few people honestly saw him as the goofy clown he put on.

In some random filler Orochimaru actually tried to kill him because he was injured and slowing the team down. All he did was smile and give a thumbs up.

Also agree with the last guy. I've never heard of any other Sannin. Im pretty sure Senjutsu was rare.

He lived A life as Hellish as Sasuke's or Ita's? lie. Someone who had an entire clan wiped out by his loving brother, nor someone who had to take out his whole family, excluding his innocent brother.


Not even comparable. I do respect & value Jaraiya alot & acknowledge hos hardship but it not comparable to Sasuke's or Ita's, barely even Naruto's.

yes but the thread is more in testament to the fact that bad upbringing =/= villain. Inspiring how it never changed him.

I'd disagree. I don't think the goofy clown was a facade, that IS his personality. He's good BECAUSE he never changed, he just also knows when to get serious.

Not a huge fan and think everything about him has already been said by Kishimoto through his own dialogue.

Nah, during the Obito arcs Kakashi started talking about himself and feeling sorry for himself a lot. Jiraiya never felt the need to let it bear weight on him or hold him down.
