This story takes place immediately following the death of Obito Uchiha in Kakashi Gaiden.
The memory of their fallen comrade weighed heavily on each of them as they pushed on to their objective...
Kakashi: We should stop and go over our plan one last time, Dawn is approaching and the Kannabi Bridge is only a mile away.
Minato: Right. Kakashi, this is still your mission, how do you want to proceed?
Kakashi: Ok, as the plan was before, we will approach the bridge just as dawn breaks. This way we can use the cover of darkness to get into position. Our position will be in the maintenance shaft. As the sun begins to rise, the supply wagons will begin to move. At this point, according to the intelligence provided by the "Kusagakure" shinobi, the Iwa watch duty shifts its patrol from the bridge to the surrounding area. We have a small gap of time to place the paper bombs on the weak points on the bridge. We need to quickly set the bombs and escape during the change in watch duty so that when we detonate the bridge, we can be at a safe distance. This will all remain the same. Rin will maintain her original post of setting the bombs on the East interior.
Rin: Ok Kakashi.
Kakashi: Since Minato sensei has better chakra control than me, he will take my of setting paper bombs on the West interior. I will be taking his- place; keeping watch. In the event that something happens and the Iwa shinobi spot us, I will hold them off for as long as I can so that you two can finish setting the bombs. Are there any questions?
Minato: No, this sounds like a good plan, I would expect nothing less from one of my students. Remember these are not just any paper bombs, they are extra powerful and could be accidentally set by a burst of chakra.
Rin gave one of the summoning scrolls of paper bombs to Minato and Team Minato then proceeded to carry out the plan...
Kakashi: (thinking) What taking them so long? We need to get out of here soon.
Minato emerges from the interior of the West side of the bridge.
Minato: (whispering) I am finished with my side, do you know how Rin is doing?*
Kakashi shakes his head. Instantly Minato disappears and reappears at Rin's side.
Rin: (whispering) almost done sensei.
As Minato helps Rin finish up, two Iwa shinobi on their break from guard duty jump down from the side of the bridge onto the water by Kakashi who is concealed.
Shinobi 1: Sure is a nice day, I'm thrilled we can rest out here rather than be cramped back at camp.
Shinobi 2: Look there's a nice place for a nap.
The two approach the river bank where coincidentally they would have a direct view of Kakashi.
Kakashi: If they look in this direction at all, they will clearly see me. The coincidence that they would chose the only spot that they could see me... I need to maximize sensei'd and Rin's time. In order to do that, I should wait for them to see me, that way the mission would succeed and Obito's sacrifice won't have been in vain...
Kakashi took a glance around him and realized to his dismay that one of the paper bombs was near by but just out of view.*
Kakashi: if I wait for them to see me they might be fast enough to attack but accidentally set off the bomb from the chakra of the jutsu. The explosion of one bomb will set off the rest. Minato sensei might be able to get away but I don't know how close to each he and Rin are and he might not be able to save her...
Kakashi pulled the left side of his forehead protector up revealing Obito's gift and proceeded to charge the two unsuspecting shinobi. He was able to incapacitate one of them however the other called for help.
Minato, having heard loud shouts, rushed over to Rin and used the Flying Thunder God jutsu to teleport himself and Rin to the concealed kunai at the detonation point.
Meanwhile, many Iwa shinobi descended upon Kakashi. With the help of his sharingan, Kakashi was able to dodge each attack. He saw Minato sensei and Rin appear at the detonation point.
Kakashi: Too bad I placed Minato sensei's kunai that he had given me up there; sensei had run out of kunai at the battle he had gone to reinforce. Obito, I guess I will be seeing you sooner than I thought, there are just too many of them... I can at least complete the mission.
Kakashi proceeded to form hand sign of a jutsu that he had only seen for the first time preformed moments before.
Kakashi: Earth Style: Hidden Mole Jutsu!
Minato having heard Kakashi shout this jutsu realized that was his chance to detonate the bridge and there still be a chance of a survival.
The bridge rumbled and collapsed on top of the shinobi who had been fighting Kakashi.
Minato and Rin ran to the top of the bridge and looked for any sign of Kakashi. Minutes passed until Kakashi emerged from the rubble on the river bank. He slowly moved towards the center...
Minato: : Stay here Rin I will go get him.
The delight was short lived. As Minato jumped, a shurikan was thrown by the one surviving Iwa shinobi, in a desperate attempt to complete one last deed for his village through the killing of Konha's Yellow Flash. Under normal circumstances Minato would have seen the attack sooner, but he had lowered his guard. The shurikan missed Minato and hit Rin landing a fatal blow.

This is my first attempt at a fan fiction. Let me know what you think of it and whether or not I should continue writing. I would also appreciate input on whether you think I should write from Kakashi or Minato. I think that after this event, they take different paths. Also, if you have any suggestions of a series title, I would be greatly appreciative if you suggested them. Now without further ado, enjoy
