I'e noticed that when it comes to revenge, especially in Sasuke's case, the thing that leads Sasuke into darkness is not the desire for revenge, but the path of revenge itself. It's like Kakashi said, that revenge leads one down a dark path. Sasuke had the desire to kill Itachi, but he the darkest changes in his personality occurred when he was on his way to join Orochimaru, and when he was on his way to the final battle with Itachi. Before that he was at least considerate, albeit distant, towards his comrades.
His darkest moment was when he stabbed Karin. He did that out of his desire to get revenge on Konoha. However he was closest to his teammates when they fought Bee, and when he tried hardest to protect them, and that was after he discovered the truth about Itachi. This is because his fight with Bee had little to do with his revenge even though the desire and cause for revenge existed. However his fight with the Kage was when the shift in his personality occurred, and when Karin noticed a darkness in his chakra. His fight with the Kage, and more so with Danzo, was when Sasuke felt he was on the path for his revenge. If hypothetically Bee took Karin hostage (obviously Bee would not do that) Sasuke would not have stabbed Karin at that point.
