CHAPTER 2: WHAT’S NEXT?
Jacob awoke in the morning got dressed and started down stairs greeting everyone good morning. Everyone knew him around their he had been living in the apartment for the past 10 years after all. He walked into the down stairs kitchen to find Ryaswish getting a haircut. “Ahh good morning my friend I’m just getting trimmed up a beat I’ve got to make a few slight changes in my appearance today but it looks like you could use a good haircut as well” Rya said but Jacob didn’t say a word he just smiled and seated himself. “Yea I guess I could use one” he finally replied “So what’s next?” asked Rya “I don’t know yet I’m still thinking” relied Jacob. Rya got up he was all done his hair was only slightly shorter then Jacobs now which was still lengthy. Jacob got up and sat in the seat next.
“You should shave his head he would look good with a good buzz cut” Rya said “Don’t listen to him Maria just do the usual” Jacob said waving his hand dismissingly at Rya. “I’ll be back in a few got to change up the wardrobe” Rya explained and then walked off. “He’s really odd” Maria explained “Yea I know tell me about it…hey what’s the best way to get to Hellstrum?” Jacob asked “Your next bounties in Hellstrum?” Maria asked “Yea and I’ve never been their before I don’t know much about it” Jacob continued “Well you could go to Kaytoo village they have ships their but as you know that’s mercenary territory now the mercenary business is booming right now they are being hired left and right in efforts to defend against the dark paladins and rumor has it that the DemiBloods have been staying their for a few months their the most powerful mercenary gang in the world its said their leader “Killmore” as they call him was raised by ogres and is totally ruthless he’s never been defeated they say”.
Maria explained “Well I don’t see why they would give me any trouble I’m just a lowly bounty hunter with a traveling fool” Jacob replied asking with concern more then stating “But that’s just it your not just a lowly bounty hunter your Wolf Fang and Killmore likes to challenge People with reputation” she replied “Oh I see a tough guy huh well I’ve heard of him before too but I will try to avoid him that shouldn’t be a problem I can do inconspicuous” Jacob replied with a grin looking right into Maria’s eyes. “Don’t go and get yourself killed I’ll miss you…I’m all done” she said. Jacobs hair was cut short but definitely not a buzz cut.
“Of course I will be ok Mari you worry too much” Jacob replied. Maria was an elderly lady who loved Jacob like a grandson. “So where are we headed Wolfy?” asked Rya who came virtually out of no where “First of all call me Jacob second I’m sorry for my…attitude…yesterday I was just a bit grumpy, and third what are you wearing?” Jacob asked in shock. “My next disguise Wolfy! Geez I already told you that” Rya replied. Rya was a wearing a fur jacket made out of bear skin it seemed with a gray shirt and pants he was also wearing glasses that were shaded dark for UV protection. “I didn’t notice you wearing glasses yesterday” Jacob asked as he walked out the door waving goodbye to Maria.
“I was wearing contacts but I actually find these more comfortable” Rya replied seemingly nervous to answer that. Jacob found that odd but didn’t want to waste the effort verbally announcing it. “So where are we headed?” asked Rya again “We are headed to buy a map so we can find Kaytoo they have boats their so we can get across to Hellstrum” replied Jacob as he was looking around. “Oh you mean Hellstrum is across a lake or something?” asked Rya perplexed “No more like the ocean it’s the other side of the world” Jacob turned to reply then turned back around to keep moving forward. “Oh” Rya replied shortly. They bought a map in the store and headed to Kaytoo. They traveled to the edge of the valley and then began to travel through the pass through the mountains.
They both rode on horses when Rya spoke up behind Jacob which knocked Jacob out of his contemplation. Surprisingly Rya had been really quite up til’ now. “I need to relieve myself mind if we stop for minute?” asked Rya even though he had already stopped to get off his horse. Jacob turned “No I don’t min..” he started to reply but Rya was already headed up the hill beside him, Jacob just sighed and got off his horse to lay down in the grass. Jacob thought to himself: I"m trying very hard to get along with him better today I even greeted him with a warm smile this morning but he is just too much! Rya walked up the hillside to find a good spot when he heard a growl it was a mountain troll about 8 ½ feet tall growling with a tree trunk for a club in his hand “Uh oh I forgot how dangerous it can be up in the mountain tops” Rya said to himself the troll came at him slamming his club into the ground Rya dodged it by flipping backwards over the trolls head he then readied his whip the troll turned around but Rya snapped at his eyes with his whip and then again at the trolls wrist knocking the club out of his hand.
Jacob heard the crash from when the beasts club hit the ground and ran up to see what the commotion was but when he got up their he found the troll had been turned to stone. Jacob was perplexed at the troll statue standing before him and Rya standing their waving at him “What happened?” asked Jacob “This troll attacked me but I took care of it” replied Rya “But how?” asked Jacob “Don’t worry about it you ask too many questions” replied Rya. Rya walked back down toward the horses. It was then that Jacob realized he knew nothing of this mysterious stranger or of what strange power he might possess.
