Long time ago, people would just stomp over a theory like this, but it seems like the time has come for a concensus.

I'll throw it right here.

Byakugan + 9 Tomoe Sharingan = Senju DNA + Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan = Rinnegan

Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan is just a transformation. It is not part of the Rinnegan evolve sequence.

Kaguya was the bearer of two doujutsus. She had the Byakugan and her 9-Tomoe Sharingan, and his son inherited the Rinnegan, meaning that the Rinnegan could be a genetic mix between the two mentioned doujutsus.

Also, we know that by reverse engineering Madara awakened the Rinnegan using Senju DNA and his own EMS.

If you were more intelligent you could understand that Rinnegan didn't come from Ashura and Indra, that was just a reverse engineerie process. The Rinnegan existed before these sons were born. My question goes towards the "origin of Rinnegan", "how did Hagoromo awake it".

Was the Byakugan with the 9-Tomoe Sharingan? Yes? No? Why?

Well you're talking about the origins of the rinnegan... the rinnegan came from the Juubi and the way to get its eye is if you become its host... ofc, you need to be jin for the rest of life and not be the juubi's jin for a day like obito and madara is...

Jūbis eye=>Rinnegan=>Sharingan

Rinnegan: Indras+Ashuras chakra=Hagoromos chakra

Byakugan: it stands alone. Kaguya had two separate Dōjutsu, but also three eyes. I'm sure she gained the power of the Sharingan due to Jūbis chakra. But she had the Byakugan before, probably.

Ashura was Rikudo's son so he got chakra out of him

Rikudo is basically where their Chakra/cells came from, he doesnt need to implant Ashura's and Indra's cells into him to get rinnegan =))))))))

Well as far as I understand Kaguya had the Byakugan all along and got the sharingan due to her eating the fruit. The original doujutsu was the 12 tomoe rinnegan from the Shinju.
