Introduction:
The Otsutsuki Royal Family and the God Tree:
Prince Hagoromo, Priest Hagoromo, and the “Hermit” of the Six Paths:
Let me explain these three time periods of the same person, Hagoromo Ootsutsuki. First is Prince Hagoromo, which is self explanatory, because he is the son of a princess. But why call him a Priest? I call him a Priest because of 1) his name, 2) choice of weapons and 3) ideology. He was called both a Hermit and a Sage, which are terms used for practicing Holy Men. Furthermore, his “weapon” of choice was a Khakkhara, a buddhist ringed staff used primarily in prayer. We know this to be the same one used by Buddhist Monks because he wielded one with six rings representing the Six Perfections or states of existence, which is also paralleled in the manga through the Paths of “other” Rinnegan users (Humans, Animals, Hell, Hungry Ghosts, Gods, and Asuras.). Lastly, according to Jiraiya, the Sage traveled across the land spreading his ideals and RELIGION--the creation of the Shinobi Sect:
So, we learned that he carried the name of a religious man, he wielded the tools of a religious person, and he even created his own religion after learning the truth of Chakra (through the Rinnegan). So I would like to use this as the foundation of my next discussion of his relationship with the Uzumaki “Priesthood”.

Where do I begin?
The purpose of this thread is to elaborate my theory of how the Sage of Six Paths and the Uzumaki Clan are interconnected.
Please do not argue single points of this thread without reading it as a whole.
My end goal is to attempt to explain some key points of this manga that Kishimoto has yet to explain to his readers. Or more importantly, the most influential character and clan—The Sage and the Uzumaki Clan.

The Otsutsuki Royal Family and the God Tree:
We found out that the God Tree was worshiped as a “Holy Pillar”, and it's Fruit was labeled Forbidden:
We also learn that the Woman who ate the Forbidden Fruit, the Mother of the Sage, was considered a Princess, and her name was Kaguya Ootsutsuki:
So... first of all, the woman who ate the fruit and “gained the Holy Power” was a princess. This is why I refer to her family as a Royal Family. Since she was royalty, had knowledge of the fruit and its abilities, and the access to obtain the fruit herself... I believe the Royal Family could have been the keepers of the God Tree. But more importantly, we see above that the princess herself has horn-like points on top of her head... just like the Sage and the Juubi itself!
My belief is that these horns were a side effect of obtaining the Holy Power of the God Tree, and it deals with the reason of WHY the fruit was labeled “Forbidden”.
*** ALTHOUGH I WILL NOT EXPLAIN MY COMPLETE THEORY ON THE HORNS IN THIS POST...***
...Ultimately the Princess was the first being to use Chakra inappropriately. But it is also important to realize that Chakra is not the same as "Nature" Energy... and although before the Princess ate the forbidden fruit there was no CHAKRA but there was NATURE ENERGY... and there were masters who could control the energies of the Divine Mother, the religious Holy Men of antiquity. In the manga, these men were sometimes called Sages.

The Uzumaki Clan Priesthood:
So the question remains, where did Hagoromo adapt the name, instruments and ideals of a Holy Man? The main discussion of this thread is my theory that the Uzumaki Clan was originally a Priesthood (possibly a warrior priesthood) that possibly served the Royal Family.
(It is VERY common for Royal Families of all religions and nations to have a Royal Priesthood with close ties.)
But regardless of whether or not the Uzumaki served directly under the Royal Family, ultimately, I believe this is where Hagoromo adapted his Hermit lifestyle.
I would like to bring your attention to some pictures of the Uzumaki Clan members in the Manga, then to other photos of holy men in the same stance:
The Uzumaki Clan was known for their prowess in the art of Fuinjutsu, or sealing techniques that seal objects, living beings, and chakra. Their processes “were a little rough” (showing its originality), and their nation was destroyed due to the fear others had of these techniques:
I believe that both Fuinjutsu (Attracting and Sealing anything) and Senjutsu (Attracting and Sealing Nature Energy) originate from the Uzumaki Clan. Before the Senju Clan ever existed, the Sage was able to use Fuinjutsu (the main technique of the Uzumaki) to seal the Juubi inside of himself. And it was the Sage's Younger Son who afterward started the Senju Clan lineage.
Side Note on the Origin of Fuinjutsu:
Most Importantly, Senjutsu is a variation of the knowledge of Religious Meditation, or the ability to quiet the physical body and attract Nature energy. This is also referred to as “Sage Mode” techniques in the manga, which many people have associated with the Senju Clan itself (“Senju”tsu):
But why is all of this important?
This is important to Hagoromo Ootsutsuki because...
1)...he was named a Sage (or “Hermit”)...
2)...while also yielding a Holy Khakkhara ...
3)...defeated the Juubi, a being comprised completely of unlimited Nature Energy...
4)...became a Jinchurriki using a Sealing Method that was created before the existence of Ninjutsu...
5)...and afterward created his own Religion based upon the truth of Chakra he learned from obtaining the Rinnegan... a truth that mirrors Spirituality itself, that all things are interconnected by one energy source (Nature Energy).
This is why “Sage” Madara was able to EFFORTLESSLY become an (Imperfect) Jinchurriki of the Juubi, because a Sage is a Master of the ability to draw in Nature Energy and the Juubi IS Nature Energy incarnate:

Side Note on the Origin of Fuinjutsu:
Some people would argue here that the Sage could have taught the Uzumaki Clan the sealing technique to create a jinchurriki, but it is important to note here that the DIRECT LINEAGE of the Sage himself, the Senju Clan did not know the sealing technique to create a Jinchurriki. This is why Mito sealed Kurama for Hashirama, just like Kushina told Naruto that she taught Minato how to use fuinjutsu, because the Uzumaki Clan were the originators of this technique. All of the original fuinjutsu were created by this clan and bear the clan's spiral crest at the centre of their design... All other clans came to them to learn and/or utilize this ninjutsu!

The Senju Clan and the Uzumaki Clan bond:
We learn from Kushina (see previous manga posted) that the Uzumaki Clan and the Senju Clan are “Distant Blood Relatives” of one another. This is because it became a Tradition for members of the Uzumaki Clan to Marry into the Senju Clan:
So it brings everything full-circle.
The Uzumaki of present day were married into the Senju Clan (descendents of the Sage) because they are “born with particularly strong chakra” that is well suited for them to become Jinchurriki (see above). The Sage himself knew that when he died the Juubi's chakra would once again be released upon the earth, but realized that the Uzumaki Clan's Sealing Technique is a method to keep this from ever happening again.
Although it would still be impossible for most people to become Jinchurriki of the Juubi itself, the Sage had foresight to divide the Juubi's chakra into 9 different living beings, increasing the possibility for Jinchurriki to exist and prevent the Juubi from ever existing again without uniting all Bijuu into one being:
The shinobi of Konoha integrated Uzushiogakure's symbol onto their uniforms and flak jackets as well as on the shoulders of their uniforms as a sign of friendship and goodwill between the two villages, and continue to this day, in memory of their friendship even years after Uzushiogakure's destruction.
I never re-post images, but since it summarizes my theory, I'll close with this image. It's proof that although his mother was some-what a warrior princess, as prince the Sage preached a spiritual message with his new religious sect “Shinobi”. The first jutsu he was shown to perform in the manga was fuinjutsu, a techinque of the Uzumaki Clan. We also know the Uzumaki Clan has close blood ties to the known descendants of the SO6P, the Senju Clan, mostly through Interr-Marriages with the clans. I propose the Uzumaki Clan was originally a religious sect that developed the technique of fuinjutsu (the ability to seal "anything") from a modified form of Senjutsu, or the ability to “seal” Nature Energy into your body. This Knowledge was taught to the Sage and he used it to defeat the Juubi and create the new religion... And the energy we see below is none other than that energy that unites all living things, all creation with mother nature, Nature Chakra:
