I wonder how Itachi/Shisui shippers will feel when and if a) The scene where Shisui teases Itachi about Izumi is shown (probably not with how fast SP is going) and b) Itachi gives Izumi a 70 yr Tsukuyomi where he gives her a ring, proposes, they get married, quit being shinobi, have kids, live together, take care of each other, cook for each other, their kids move out, and Izumi dying of old age as Itachi holds her (probably will be shown or skimmed over with how much SP seems to focus on Izumi... it's going somewhere).
I haven't seen any Hashirama or Madara in these eps.

-How is the arc?
It's good imo. In comparison to ostrich fillers and things of that nature and it does bring up things that were mentioned, so it's okay. The animation is decent too, so that's a plus.
-Is it worth it?
For you? No. Because...
a) You hate Itachi. Why would you do this to yourself and watch an arc on him? lol
b) Your ship is not happening, which might upset you especially with what SP will likely do with Izumi since they like romance and will likely include her section from the novels. But you might want to continue watching up until Shisui's death if you genuinely like the friends' interactions.
c) You mentioned that it contributes nothing new to the story and that is why you don't like them. Well, of course they don't. This is only going to cover things that were not elaborated on before but were still mentioned. They cannot add new material out of the blue as this is a relatively already complete story and does not continue the current plotline. SP just decided to animate it for monetary purposes and they thought this was an apt time to do so since Itachi has a little relevance during the final fight as Sasuke/Naruto discuss what they think his ideology was.
d) It would be more enjoyable for you to have read the novels so you would know the significance behind certain events/dialogue and what exactly they allude to. But I don't think you have the time nor want of cracking out a Japanese-English dictionary while sitting with a more fluent friend and translating them to get the gist. I did that and it was worth it to me since I thoroughly enjoy the character. You, do not.
e) You said it yourself that you think only hard-core Itachi fans could enjoy the arc. I disagree as I've been seeing non-Itachi fans enjoy it too. Whether they liked the better animation, minor fight scenes and action sequences, seeing a few new characters, or just the anime in general. But it's very telling that you have come to that conclusion.
I would suggest you drop it for the sake of your own happiness as you're plainly not enjoying it. Then, return when manga-canon returns to the anime. Just take a break, relax, and the final anime arc will likely be back by the time you want to return to the anime.

Brilliant post, this was a great read. What do you make of the fact that this academy/genin business with Itachi is eerily similar to the antics of every other filler arc academy episode (Konohamaru to Kakashi to Sasuke)
I like that theory but I feel like the Oro reveal ruined that potential theory video. I refuse to believe to this date he doesn't have SOME connection to the Ootsutsuki. Everything post-700 is Oro-related and as much as I love him...we need Ootsutsuki explanations, so Oro links suck.

I think that's just the way SP perceived those moments. The novels are just words, it's up to SP to piece it together unlike adapting directly from Kishimoto's manga where there is already a visual representation. The novels didn't describe the fights in depth either, just mainly told readers they happened and the result & a few techs that were used at max. It was probably easier for them to do similar animation since they had the base movements drawn from the past eps. I don't mind it, but I can understand why one would not be impressed as it's mainly just a rehash.
Mitsuki still might. Maybe Orochimaru had affiliations with Toneri, you never know. xD
