We all know the manga = cannon, but can we seperate the non-cannon material too be considered its "own" sort of cannon all by itself...? Or is that up to the individual person too choose...

Much like how the manga is the cannon; could us as individuals consider the non-cannon anime "cannon" as much as we consider the manga cannon... (I know, crazy eh)

Anyways, any material that isnt part of a manga is no different than fan-fiction, none of it should be taken seriously

I would say
Non cannon "canon anime" is anime that follows the the main story but maybe add an extra episode to a fight or go deeper into a character like the 7 swordsmen gettings sealed.

Non canon "non canon anime" is anime that doesn't follow the story or progression. The episode tend to have it's own arc lik the chikara episodes.

Canon refers to legit writing from the original source. The author's original writing is in the Manga and DBs. It's irrational to consider those fillers canon.

It's "Canon" firstly, and secondly if you wish to interpret like that then go ahead.

You mean scenes like this in the Anime? :

Hinata stood up to Pain - but the Anime greatly expanded upon the scene (I suppose Nagato was toying with her).... but it was an insta-kill in the Manga (and the whole 'origins' of her appreciation for Naruto being added by the anime, too).

Is that what you're talking about?

Nice AMV find, but I was talking about in general; nothing specific, heh

That's kind of what I was asking... you mean like stuff that is what would be called "Apocryphal" - it's right there on the edge of canon but not purely canon?

Or were you meaning how the Anime attempts to elaborate upon issues that the Manga mentions, but never really returns to or discusses in detail?

Well... He wrote a few one shots, and a movie. Are they canon?

Anime's canon to anime
Manga's canon to manga.

Personally, I like to think of it all as canon in the Narutoverse, but that's just me. I even like to think some fanon is canon which is irrational, but I just like beliving in the things I want to happen. It's all imagination.

Thank-you, the is what I was meaning. Yes, I wasn't sure if others considered the anime to be canon all of its own; sort of like seperate universes; was assuming the only "canon" was the manga--no exception. Now I know otherwise. :p

Sorry to the confusion all. Wasn't sure how to word it... You all helped me stumble thru it. Should of added a disarmed "amuse me" or some such. Next time. :'D

I understand what you mean, now.

In a way - you're right. Except that the anime is based largely around an incomplete manga. If the manga were complete, then the anime adaptation would be able to work in a lot of extra content that can feel like it is part of the original storyline (because it has effects later on down the road).

Since it is incomplete - we see a lot of things that are never referenced later in the story - or character development that was shown in the anime early on, but then the manga still operates off of the 'old' character to show development. Or, in some cases - you get absolute catastrophes, such as a few of Bleach's filler arcs that... while excellent story arcs in and of themselves - ended up contradicting several key plot developments in the manga (and later the anime adaptation of those manga plots).

That's why, in series as long as these, a lot of the non-canon events are just completely irrelevant because they won't impact later events unless the anime decides to break step with the manga (such as with Death Note).
