So we all know of the iconic Neji vs Naruto fight during the Chunin exams. It was badass, had a great OST (for the anime), had some Hinata and Naruto build up, showcased Neji's in-depth character and potential (could've been the third member of Team 7/salt).... But this thread isn't about that it is about one particular thing...

When they had that final clash both combatants crashed into the ground, which later made Naruto to use that shadow clone trick in order to uppercut Neji from underneath the ground.

A surprise Attack! A move similar to something Kakashi spammed multiple times...

But there is one problem... Neji has the byakugan but decided to deactivate it when he was checking out that unconscious Naruto clone in that pit.... Was it because he was low on chakra? Or was it Plot?

Since if Neji still had his byakugan active he would've easily have seen Naruto down below due to his X-ray vision

He believed he won so he deactivated it. It would have been weird if he kept it active after he already won. I guess.

Throughout the fight neji was being overconfident and cocky so it's not surprising that he turned it off cuz he thought he won. For once this wasnt plot it actually fit the character motives

I'd expect a Hyuga called a genius with the best tracking, sensor eyes in the verse would actually make sure he was fully down for the count instead of not being cautious

but then again you guys could be right :/

Overconfidence, he thought he was a genius who would never lose to someone like Naruto.

However one issue i have with that fight is, we see Naruto be attacked by Neji numerous times and still be able to stand up again, but one direct punch from Naruto and Neji is knocked out? it wasnt even a series of attacks, just one ordinary punch.

Glass cannon, maybe?

Can dish it out, but can't take a hit.
