Victor Valdes' representatives have told Barcelona he will not consider extending his stay at the club.
Valdes, who turned 31 this week, will be out of contract in the summer of 2014 and recently indicated that he would like to sample "other cultures, other leagues and other countries" before the end of his playing career.
Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta had suggested to the media that the club were hopeful of agreeing a deal to keep the goalkeeper at the Camp Nou. However, at a meeting between the club and the player's representatives on Thursday, it emerged that Valdes would not welcome any offers to extend his deal.
A statement released by his representatives to the EFE news agency on Thursday evening read: "The agents of Victor Valdes have told FC Barcelona at a meeting this afternoon that he has made an irreversible decision not to renew his contract. This avoids the need to enter into any financial discussions."
Valdes first joined Barca as a youth in 1992 and has spent the entirety of his professional career with the club. It is expected that Zubizarreta will explain the goalkeeper's reasoning at a press conference on Friday.
