I've seen a few threads about the guy being shisui and it makes sense but I think the part that really stands in his favor were his eyes and how they were being held open. Shisui had his eyes taken out given to itachi so if he survived somehow it could have been awhile before he found other eyes, even years maybe so his eyes would have probs swollen shut.
