First off I dont post anything as a definite fact, as I believe that this is only a theory.
A crazy one if true.
I was just wondering like most of the unbelievers what Madara said about : he have some matters to attend to

I do not think that Madara went back to konoha as Danzo to attend the meeting. I how ever think that he did not anticipate Pain to lose against Naruto.
We all remember how unsurprised he was when Itachi lost to Sasuke, almost as if things was falling into his plan perfectly. However we do not encounter the same reaction when presented with Pain/Nagato's death. Instead it looked more to me like a person thats master plan just throw a curve ball back.
Madara's urgency which he needed to attend to I undoubtedly think that he was referring to a back up plan. A plan to obtain the Kyuubi which is the strongest but was supposed to be the easiest to retrieve!
Our current analysis of the situation of Akatsuki is just left of sh!t. Originally starting off with:
Oro
Sasori
Hidan
Kakuza
Deidra
Itachi
Kizame
Konan
Zetzu
Pain/Nagato and gang
Madara (even though he was a silent partner
)

First Oro abandoned the team after having alterer motives. (10left)
Sasori made friends with Sakura's fists (9left)
Hidan and Kakuza are pushing Daisies (7left)
Deidra and Sasuke had a dr@g queen competition (6left)
Itachi had a brotherly reunion (5left ,The figures are looking a bit grim here )
Madara employees 4 new recruits Sasuke, Juuygo, Sugetsu, and freak chick (employees jumps to 9 again)
Pain and Konan made friends in Konoha (employees falls to 7 again)
So if we take into consideration that the 4 new employees, Sasuke and gang are fairly new, not showing too much loyalty towards our Leader Madara and failed in their first mission, Dont think Madara sits with to much "friends" around the table anymore, as a matter of fact, he's down to 3.
From that position he also encounters another problem. The "god" problem that Pain used to have. Nobodies is giving Amagakure a rain protection against intruders anymore. And where is the voice that used to telepathically talk to the villagers regarding their great ex leader pain.
If thats not enough, he is still missing the 9tails, if that even is his plan to still obtain them. Non the less, it still poses a threat to him and that is the Bijuu he actually so desires. As we can quickly recall the past events.
All in all, I think Madara is sitting with his hands in his hair pulling the remainders out.
He desperately needs a plan, one to fix the situation his little organization is facing. What does he do??? Stay tuned for the next episode. No no no, Im just pulling your leg.
Madara uses Sasuke's past against him and let him loose like a dog that have been caged for years, hunger for revenge. What revenge? To ponder havoc in Konoha of course. He is required to weaken Madara's worst enemy, Konoha, so he releases his sasuke dog and waits, waits for his pup to face the fox. Because he evidently knows that Naruto will protect the village and in order to do so, yet again, will need to come up against Sasuke.
Sasuke will be used, yes just like a rag of old cloth, thrown to Naruto to be fox food. My prediction will be that of a furious and long anticipated battle between friends, and Madara will be sitting next to Zetsu having a bit of tea and watching the scenery. Naruto will use up Sasuke's chakra and Sasuke will weaken Naruto to a state that Madara could just "escort" him back to the hide out. I think the urgent business that Madara needs to attend to his to watch over Sasuke's back this time, to ensure that things go accordingly and if Sasuke fails, Madara is there to claim victory!
If this comes true and Madara makes his appearance while they fight. Sasuke will have a change of heart and realized that he have been manipulated, yet again, and will try to save Naruto.
If I missed this totally and completely, the only possible thing that I might come up with why Madara left, is that he stated earlier that another pawn is required to sync with Gedo Mazo. SO he could be looking for some new recruitments, I wonder whom's next in the pipeline?
