Chapter 31 - "Noelle Rose"
Mia suddenly notices a book behind a bunch of others, and takes it up after looking at it in several seconds. Its dark red; looks somewhat old, and the title is written in big white letters.
Mia: …This book… I’ve been looking for it!
The old salesman looks in curiosity at the book she is holding, and suddenly smiles after finding out which one it is.
Salesman: Ah… “The Beginning of an Era” – Written by Michael Craft… It’s the story about how the Cowboy Era began. Want me to tell you about it?
She nods at his question without taking her eyes off the book. Her hands are holding it tightly, and she checks her pockets several times to see if she has enough money to buy it.
Salesman: The book is simply about one thing, and that is the life of Noelle Rose; the first cowboy in the history. She started the cowboy era with her acts towards the government…
Mia is counting the coins she found out of her pockets; still hoping she has enough to buy the book. The salesman doesn’t mind this and continues to tell about the book.
Salesman: … She was executed 18 years ago at the most famous execution place, “The Mortuus”. It was broadcasted all over the world, and this also made her last words world famous...
Money is placed on the desk at the store by Mia; ready to leave with her new book. She looks at him before leaving, and speaks out with a smile.
Mia: “Regret has been following me since I was a kid, but the choice of becoming a cowboy is something I would gladly do again. I didn’t manage to fulfill my goals and dreams, but that doesn’t mean I’m the one who shall fulfill them. New generations will come every decade; some may fail, but one person will certainly make it… This person is destined to succeed!!”
She walks away saying the last words of the first cowboy; making the salesman smile while waving with one hand and holding coins in the other.
Mia: Time flies… (It feels like it was just yesterday I read that in the newspapers at the time the execution happened…)
-The scene switches to Skylar-
Skylar talks to some of the civilians in the middle of the street; asking them where he can find the best blacksmith who can help him make a cowboy emblem.
Skylar: His name is Lance, and his workshop is on the south side of Sago? I got it, thanks a lot!
He bows to the civilians before running of towards the south of the city; hoping to find the blacksmith Lance’s store there.
Skylar: Heh, I already know how I want my emblem to look like!
-The scene switches to Alice-
Alice takes out bread she got in Lisfro from her backpack, and gives it to some of the homeless who live on the street; hoping they accept it.
Homeless man: T-there is no need to give us that bread, girl...
She jumps back a bit after hearing this, and looks down in disappointment. She apologizes and is about to put it into the backpack when the homeless man suddenly speaks up again.
Homeless man: B-but of course we can accept! I would love to eat that bread! It's just that a person called Lance gives us food every day, so there is no need to worry about us...
She smiles in relief after hearing that, and walks away while the homeless eat their bread; glad they are doing better than when she was a homeless herself.
