Chapter 22 - "I'll protect you..."
Kace and Luke stares at each other; Kace with his Rifle out, and Luke with both his revolvers out. The tension in the air is high, and both wait for an opportunity to shoot.
A lot of noises come from the house next to the saloon; which is the place where the two milits Skylar and Slate is fighting.
Kace: Seems like our leaders are going all out…
Luke: Yeah…
Kace gives off a small laugh while they’re still staring at each other; holding his gun more and more tightly.
Kace: Heh, you’re not the most talkative person, are you? Well, I guess it’s not time for that though…
He suddenly aims at Luke with his rifle, and prepares to fire. Luke does the same immediately, and several gunshots are heard all over the town. The firing stops after some seconds, and they both stands on the same places unharmed.
Kace: …Weird, seems we both missed our targets…
Echoes from the gunshots are still heard, and it seems Luke is waiting for it to stop before he starts talking.
Luke: What are you talking about? I hit every target…
Kace: What?
He looks confused at Luke while reloading his now warm rifle after the shooting.
Luke: …I never aimed at you; I aimed at the gunshots you fired towards me… I shot them so they wouldn’t hit me…
Kace almost loses his rifle in surprise, and starts sweating more than before. People who are hiding and watching from their homes are surprised too, and whisper to themselves in shock.
Kace: (No way, he got to be joking… No one at our level could do something like that…)
He gives of small nervous laugh, and suddenly aims and starts firing at Luke again.
Kace: Like hell I would believe that!!
-The scene switches to Alice and Mia-
Alice holds Mia’s hand while running through the streets, and they’ve manage to get away from the Sand cowboys Katherine and Matt. They run into an alleyway to hide themselves when they suddenly hear gunshots.
Mia: …Gunshots again! Seems like the other cowboys are fighting right now…
She leans to the wall to the house made of planks; sweating and exhausted after all the running.
Alice: W-we need to keep running! It’s not safe here…
Mia nods to her and they continue to run again, but immediately stop when Katherine is in front of them; holding two long dirty knives in her hands.
Katherine: Hey there… running from something..?
They turn around as a reflex, but Matt is behind them; surrounding them in the alleyway with a shotgun.
Katherine: Did you actually think you could get away?
Both she and Matt start laughing while walking towards them preparing to attack. Alice hides behind Mia’s back; scared and not knowing what to do.
Mia: Stay back, red hair… I’ll beat them up…
Alice looks at Mia, still not sure what to do, and thinking back to what Skylar said before they ran off from the Sand cowboys.
(Skylar: Alice! Take that bartender lady to a safe place now! Protect her!)
Alice: N-no… I’ll protect you…
Mia and the Sand cowboys looks surprised at Alice, who is now slowly getting surrounded by a small amount of fire.
Alice: ….I won’t let them hurt you!
